After seeing how these new rules were played during the pre-season openers, I hate em. It seems every play is some kind of penalty between the receiver or DB. Just let them playyyyyyy.
These are not new rules, they are simply enforcing the rules they did not enforce last year(only reason NE beat IND)
they should be enforcing those rules, marvin harrison was raped by ty law last year in the AFCCG, todd pinkston(i know he sucks and i hate him) was man handled by ricky manning jr. a 5-7 rookie, suffocating a 6-2 WR and they weigh the same. thats not how it should be played, the WRs in the playoffs were raped, thrown in a bag aand suffocated by DBs. its the right thing to do,
Back in the day, the receivers could give some too. Five yard chuck rule my ass. It's tough to jamb someone atthe line when they've got their forearm in your throat. First the QB's have the testes protected by thirty pages of rules, now the WR's too? When will it end? Maybe they can institute a charging rule like in the NBA... Oh, the humanity! Just funnin' you guys... sorta. It used to be a man's game played by men. Look at some of the old highlights from the 40's and 50's and even into the 60's. Now it's turning into a rich man's game played by investors and controlled by share holders. <sigh>
football thinks they have to compete with the NBA and MLB and the used to be NHL. they dont realize that they are so far ahead and superior to every major sports league, and probably right with soccer outside of the US, that the NFL keeps kickin themselves in the ass. thats my one criticism of Tags, and the owners. soon the only contact will be LBs tackling RBs in a little bubble, and once they run 5 yards, its a automatic TD
"(only reason NE beat IND)" Just wondering Sir, is that the only reason why we beat them the previous time too?
I think the main concern is keeping the game balanced. Everytime they add a rule or a team finds a way to make an offense more potent, they come up with a rule to balance. Same could be said the other way, like they've done with this new enforcement. It's about entertainment, don't forget that.
I bet by week 4 that they won't be making those calls. Seems that whenever they make a rule they enforce it to absurdity in the preseason, then as the regular season goes on they stop calling it. We'll see.
Keep in mind that this is preseason for the refs as well. They are getting used to calling the new rules and might be calling things a little tight. I, for one, like the new rule changes. Its easy to defend a pass when you can hold the receiver's arms down. The only player on the team who has too much protection in the rule book (IMO) is the QB.
I am with the beef as far as QB rules go. Eliminate intentionally grounding and roughing the passer calls.
i agree... they are football players too... it shouldnt be the defenders fault if the QB gets rid of the ball 2 seconds before he gets hammered. intentional grounding is the exact same thing as an incomplete pass... who cares
roughinh the passer makes sense, so does intentional grounding. roughing the passer is in most cases cheap shots, and intentional grounding is a pussy QB throwing it away so he doesnt get hit.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BearsFan1)</div><div class='quotemain'>These are not new rules, they are simply enforcing the rules they did not enforce last year(only reason NE beat IND)</div> your a funny guy bearsfan but I bet those 4 picks in which none of them were because of illegal contact had nothing to do with it right? or the fumble that harrison coughed up when Rodney blew him up? But that had nothing to do with winning....it was illegal contact...riiiiiiight. Please don't hate on us because we were a superior team to everyone last season and thats that....our receivers had no trouble beating physical corners and they are supposedly inferior to that of the Rams and Colts....maybe its just some guys or teams are really not that good not the rules. You only hear complaints after a loss we never would have heard shit had the colts won. So it's obviously not that big of a problem....plus I might add there were no calls on our DB's in the first preseason game and I didn't notice anything to different...Just the same old Defense shutting down yet another passing game.
As for the QB stuff I agree they are over protected but who really wants to see Kliff Klingsbury and Chris Chandler battling it out or something to that sort ever sunday?? The quality of play would be in the shitter.
The quality of the play would go back to the running back's, like it used to be. But with today's defenses, I think there needs to be some protection for the QB's. I have just seen it taken to some extreme's in recent years (i.e. Brett Favre being tapped on the helmet by a hand and getting the call) Pretty soon QB's will be wearing flags.
Manning would not have thrown those picks if not for illegal contact/Pass interference. he would have shredded your secondary for 500 yards. Just cuz you got away with cheating does not mean you were not cheating. Though i will add . . .If you arent cheating you arent trying
