Falcons basically stole TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs for a 2010 2nd Round Pick. *shaking head in approval*
For this season, Atlanta definitely wins it. But Gonzalez is only signed for this season and next, then he'll be a free agent and declining. So Atlanta basically traded for two seasons on the downhill slope of Gonzalez's career (though still a very good player). The player selected with a second-round pick can be much more valuable. It's a risk. If KC uses the pick wisely, they win for the future. I think it's a win-win deal. Atlanta got a key piece for their contention now, with Matt Ryan, while Kansas City converted a player who's value is only going to decline each year and who wasn't going to get them into the playoffs this season anyway into a significant draft pick.
True. Glad it was a 2010 pick. That said, Atlanta nearly won their division last season, then played Arizona as tough, or tougher, than all the other playoff teams, save the Steelers. Oh, and not to mention they won the big three awards (ROY, COY, and GMOY) They're in good hands. In Dimitroff I trust!
Maxie, what's the deal with the 'Skins and Jason Campbell? Some sort of falling out I hear? Heck, I've even heard that Washington might be looking to draft Mark Sanchez. (!!)
I think it's a great trade for both teams....Atlanta gets a major piece to building a contender....Matt Ryan will continue to impress with this addition Kasas City does good in two ways....they get a great pick for next year which will always help a rebuilding team. And it shows real gratitude in a player that has done so much as the face of thier franchise...by sending him to a legit contender....it is a nice send off for thier best player...giving him a chance at a ring...knowing they we're rebuilding and a loooong way off...this was a very classy move by the Chiefs!
The Redskins were supposedly a serious bidder for Jay Cutler, and Snyder/Cerrato (not Zorn) basically showed little regard for Campbell. Campbell was reportedly upset, but not to the level Cutler was when Josh McDaniels tried to deal Cutler to get Cassel, as Cutler basically bailed on the Broncos completely.
yeah....Campbell wa taking the "highroad" and said it did bother him and made him question thier faith in his abilites....but he said he would use that as motivation to prove his worth. But once the rumor of the Skins front office looking at moving up to get Sanchez....Campbell said that if they did that...he would request a trade....and rightfully so...it's almost a slap i the face to be cool in light of the Cutler situation and then once again be thrown under the bus....this time not to get a Pro-Bowl QB...but a rookie....ouch!!!
lol....sorry to drudge up old wounds....lol....but it was a nice gesture on KC's part....even more so, since they cold've probably gotten more from a less established team
Yeah, Snyder and Cerrato are not a good front office team. It's great that Snyder is interested in investing in his team and trying to win, but he needs to stop interfering and either making football decisions himself or mandating to Cerrato that he get a splashy name. Snyder is becoming a parody of himself, the way George Steinbrenner did.
deep down, I'm almost hoping the Skins f*ck up and move up...and then trade Campbell to my Vikings!!!
detroit took stafford rams took jasom smith kc took tyson jackson seattle took aaron curry cleveland is on the clock
jets traded up for sanchez.. jets traded 17 pick 2009 second rounder and 3 players for the 5th pick(sanchez)
As a 49ers fan, I am so glad Al Davis is running his franchise into the ground. It worked out great for the 9ers, as they got Crabtree. The Raiders took Heyward-Bay because Al Davis has a speed fetish. Heyward-Bay wasn't even the second-best wide receiver prospect and was barely a first-round talent. But he ran the fastest 40 time, so Davis had to have him.
Oakland taking H-B might be the best decision they made today. Their 2nd rounder was a projected 7th rounder, at best.
What's the deal? The deal is they have the worst owner in pro football. Every Fall, Dan Snyder ruins what used to be the most glorious time of the year for me. He cares more about getting attention by splashy moves than by building a quality football team. Basically, they don't think Jason Campbell is a commanding enough presence to be a quarterback in DC. He's not Sonny, he's not Billy, he's not Joey T. That's why he was willing to give up everything for Jay Cutler and tried his hardest to get Mark Sanchez. Dan Snyder doesn't know football.
