Cord cutters...im sure is pretty big especially with people using things like Amazon Fire Stick Im sure digital availability is hurting ratings I would like to know how they figure in DVRing and people watching red zone But to me the biggest issue is there are too many games on prime time...it takes away viewership IMO... before Thrusday night, before Sunday night..it was Sunday and then Monday night... People would watch their local team on Sunday then feel the need to watch a second game no matter who was playing... now...the nation says...fuck it..im not watching Monday , thrusday looks like a better matchup
supposedly wi-fi, smart phones, et al., is measured, but too what extent, and in which areas. Not sure myself if Nielsen obtains a true cross section of viewing metrics. The amount of 'diaries' isn't a fair quota or cross section. Nielsen fails to define exactly to what extent the metrics are; unless it's the supposed 180Mil Facebook users... here's one link, tho' I suspect any specifics, metrics, et al.... https://www.forbes.com/sites/seamus...s-and-how-are-they-calculated/3/#6daffd5713a5 I can only speak for msyelf: This yr alone, my fondness for watching games went from 6-8 hrs a day, down to an hour here and there, popping in and out of a game or 2. I quit watching pre-game hype, and delay a games start until 5-10 mins after a flag ceremony. I don't agree with the kneeling, yet I would fight for an individuals right to express themselves, within reason....I still enjoy the Highlights of the days action. I don't see much merit to NFL players bitching about inequalities and plights... We're all victims to some extents... if you wan't to count what you don't have, and forget what you do and did have.... Too many millionaires not putting their money where their mouth or protest is; let's push agendaes of over aggressive law enforcement, blm, et al, rainbow rights, et al... not the place for it. !! Biggest prob imo, is I've long despised the style and pussification of the NFL. I wan't to see prima donna's thrown off of fields. Not like Trump would, nothing like it. Prima donna's run out of bounds when they s/b running the clock out, or step on others for the sheer fun of it; ie Suh, and or other things, less McMahon vs Rozelle, lmao... Football s/b devoid of politics, where grown men come to beat the hell out of each other strategically and physcially, with sportsmanship and teamwork. The frills fk up the game imo. One BIG reason I'd rather watch NCAA all effing day long, no prima donna's; just grown men beating the hell out of each other, and having fun... No bullshit, and if so, they get there asses thrown off the field.... Even the DOD had filthy hands within the NFL's realm; no politics in football imo... Besides Since Rodgers went down, so did my taste for the NFL, ntm- it's never too late to convert to the Crimson Tide....
Big data mining and tracking far more accurate than you think. Either significant decrease in viewership, or previous rating values were over estimated. I can only speak for 3 data points, my household and my in laws. All 3 have stopped watching because both in laws are veterans and they find kneeling during the anthem are disrespectful to their service and the service of others.
...lol...citing you and your family's stance is one thing but again, using Nielson as a yardstick is a joke..."FAKE NEWS"...but I should have known that's what this thread was really all about...so very transparent. ...NFL viewership has been on the decline since well before the national anthem thingy but you already knew that, right?...like many others, I've lost interest because the rules changes have gradually pussified the game regardless of the political gymnastics of a handful of players....but what the hell, keep pimping your agenda.
Not just be Nielson Ron. Other marketing data sources indicate 15-20% decline. Don't dispute there are other factors contributing. However you can't discount protests have an impact. I don't have an agenda. Like you I see the protests as pointless because the players can't articulate what they are protesting. Furthermore the general public became offended long before Trump made it his issue. So in my mind, finding it offensive to America bears no alignment with Potus or his positions. It's pretty simple, either you find their actions offensive or you do not. I do in full transparency. I don't see you stating where you stand. Even assuming they are protesting police brutality, they aren't acknowledging the facts. 90% of the time police fire their weapons, they are returning incoming fire. 80% of that time it's black men shooting at cops. Where are the protests of the black on black slaughter that is Chicago. A typical month exceeds the events from Vegas.
...that's all I needed to hear. ...and of course have an agenda, deny it all you want. Do the anthem demonstrations have an effect?...perhaps, but not to the degree you're implying.
a lot of great points made Tote. I don't disagree with either you or 59, you're both correct... data collection, for "in market areas" are vast, large in numbers, and yes, are probably pretty accurate for those pre-selected key markets, usually the largest cities. "Paper diaries", are sent out to only 2 million "out of market areas" or "non-major markets", of TV households. 'Paper Diaries' are used for: N. La Co.; So. Kern, N. San Berdoo co's, basically the Antelope Valley to Barstow, Victorville, and Ridgecrest. Once rural areas 30 yrs ago; all utilize and are non-included by nielsen, yet are viewers of the same LA and So Cal networks. This area is a bedroom community of LA commuters, yet not counted amongst "in market areas". This area is as much a another bad 'barrio' of los angle-lez. The populace here with the area as a whole would be equivalent to Sacramento, but larger in populace than KC, Hotlanta, Cleveland, St. Louis, New Orleans.... this is one way and reason I say "selected areas or markets". Select in market areas, are the basis for: ratings regardless of how they're counted or how accurate are used to tabulate the cost of advertisments, simply put. TV revenues are used along with poor ratings to devalue the costs paid to the NFL from advertisers, at lowered rates, as low or lower than the ratings pctg's.... it's that simple, a manipulation of $$$ for ad's, and payments lesser, than higher payments prior to the NFL. I don't blame advertisers for de-valuing ad costs, and payments to the NFL. The NFL players mockery of politics, integrated with bad mouthing law enforcement as over zealous racists killers, and other bs perpetrated by football players, men raised in the hood, have (too often) the hoods mentalities (what little that is, ie mentality), who have a strewed view of how the rest of americans live, as well as more bs entitlements for those who don't care to educate their young, get jobs, and/or as a right of passage for the overall social group: don't stick around once they have kids, and never work an honest job, use the system for those entitlements.. Facts are every law enforcement agency has paid and continue to pay dear prices, for re-educating officers to public pandering....
To discount the correlations between the ratings and protests is to ignore the most key fact...would the owners and players be meeting with the commish if there wasn't public backlash? The NFL, owners and players have agendas that correlate to their paychecks. I don't, just observing. Like you I don't think it makes sense. I will go one step farther and say I think it's uncalled for and unpatriotic. I will further say I don't believe cops target minorities, but rather some minority segments make themselves targets for closer scenery by law enforcement. Overwhelming majority of cops are good.
...no one has said there has not been a "backlash". The issue is to what degree and even you admitted that "there are other factors to consider". ...NFL viewership has been going downward since well before the national anthem thing.
