NFL and union officials discussed adding two games to the regular season when they met Wednesday for their first negotiating session since February. Teams still would play a total of 20 exhibition games under the proposal. The league would go from four in the preseason and 16 in the regular season to two and 18. "This is an idea that is really gaining momentum, particularly with the owners," Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy said during a conference call. The current collective bargaining agreement will expire in March, and that could lead to a work stoppage during the 2011 season. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5294399
The union will say no to this as a bargaining chip, but yes eventually because it'd make the pie much...much bigger. This might be the thing that finally drives a true minor league for the NFL into existence, along with maaaybe some injured reserve rule changes (it hasn't always been an out for the year thing).
20 Exhibition games? Shouldn't that just be 20 games over all? Since all it's going to do is drop preseason games I see no problem. Health is a issue, but they play during these games even if not full games. I know even though I'm a STH for the Blazers I don't go to a lot of the preseason games so there should be a larger attendance. BTW, When I try to type in this field it keeps wanting to pop up higher so I have to hit the arrow keys to get down to type. Anyone else have this problem? I've notice it since the format change.
