I'm a fan of two teams, the Mariners in the AL and the Mets in the NL. I was a bit depressed about the chances of both teams until the Mets went on a 10 game winning streak and pulled into a tie for the lead in the NL East. They've fallen back into second place, but still only one game out. Can they get back to their winning ways and win the division? What caused the streak anyway? Was Randolph the wrong manager for the team? Is he just not very good? Also, why have they gone back to playing 6-4 ball in their last 10 games? 6-4 isn't bad, but it definitely isn't 10-0 either. The trade deadline just passed, so they won't get any help there. Are there any hot prospects coming up soon? I don't follow the minor leagues that much. I hope they can find something to get that spark back. Go Mets!!
They seem to be going in the wrong direction at the moment, still close to the first place team though. Does this team just not get motivated unless they have something like a managerial change to spark them? What can they do to get over this slump?
Well, we just called up Eddie Kunz, our closer of the future for the bullpen and he made his MLB debut today. Fernando Martinez might make a late season appearance for the corner OF. Right now injuries and bullpen are the biggest concern. John Maine is on the DL, Ryan Church is on the DL, Billy Wagner is getting an MRI on his forearm, El Duque is still rehabbing, Luis Castillo is rehabbing. We basically at this point don't have any reliable arms in the bullpen.

The bullpen's health is fine, the problem is that they all suck. The only one is Wagner who is getting an MRI, so we'll have to wait and see what his status is.
Fernando Martinez. Kunz has not given up a HR since his freshman year at Oregon St, when he allowed one. After that he was the closer on back-to-back National Champions. He allowed no HR last year in Brooklyn and none this year in Binghamton, where he had 27 saves. That means he has allowed no HRs since 2005.

It appears that they still have injuries, but they just went on another nice win streak, six games this time. Is Ayala the answer to thier bullpen problems? Are the starters doing enough that the bullpen doesn't matter as much? Was that just an easy part of the schedule? Anyway, they have the division lead now, I hope they keep it.
