...yeah, I read that some of the witnesses said that the train seemed to be going faster than usual as it came into the station.

I wonder why in this day and age there's not something in place to make the trains automatically slow down when approaching stations.

Driving that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you'd better watch your speed.
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

In this day and age it wouldn't surprise me hell there have been instances of pilots getting wasted an wanting to fly. To this say I don't thank any action has been taken against that engineer that wrecked an Amtrack Train speeding to fast for a curve in Philly. I rode those commuter and passenger trains all over this country and always felt safe not so sure today.

approximately a couple years ago, a Metro-Link train collided with a Freighter in San Fernando Valley. Cause of the accident was Engineer intoxication, due to multiple substances, booze, crack coke, and meth too.... (ie, po' paid black man who ran the Metro-Link train)

PTC, positive train control, a GPS-based safety technology capable of preventing train-to-train
collisions, over-speed derailments, unauthorized incursion into work zones, and train movement
through switches left in the wrong position. Such technology is in place in New York.
Unfortunately, it is not in place in New Jersey.

    Question: Why not?

The parts got stuck on a bridge? Or maybe Sandy washed them away and the Obama hug didn't cover transit expenses?

^^^^yep. My guess would be that Christie did not think it mattered.

Yeah, he was in fact wasted. Strange dumb ass thing was** the supposed "Train Engineer" (that's another story), had a friend in the Conductor's Cabin, and with a **Camera in that Cabin, (as a measure for evidence for future crashes), and other reasons. The Cabin film showed the Conductor letting his buddy, (who knew nothing about the controls) take over while He got his hits off of a Crack Pipe. They switched off and on with the controls numerous times.

This was a Metro-Link, Mass Transit Train, with a simplified conductor's cabin of operational switches, buttons, controls in general, in which a monkey could conduct a safe MTA like train, vs a Southern Pacific or other legit Train Freighter...and yeah, the Conductor and his buddy, both black men in their late 20s, the other early 30s.....
