<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It will take more than a 15-3 start for SuperSonics CEO Wally Walker to discuss a contract extension with coach Nate McMillan. McMillan is in the final year of a four-year deal. "We have not had direct dialogue," Walker said. "I told Nate, ?There is nothing we want in this organization more than for you to succeed, have a great year and sit down at season?s end to have that discussion about a longer-term future here.? "We haven?t had that discussion. "No one is dogmatic about anything. As far as him coaching in the last year of a deal, it is working, we are all in it together, we?ll see where it goes. Nothing is etched in stone." Although Walker said anything is possible, he insinuated it was not likely discussions will take place based on the team?s fast start. "We like what is going on," Walker said. "We don?t like the contracts to be a distraction either way for anybody. Again, it is working as it has been. It is going to be a great and busy offseason, whatever the timing is in talking to those people who had key roles."</div> Source(scroll down a bit)
No need to sit down and start negotiations at this point. The team is cruising, everyone's happy, and unless Nate is particularly anxious to start talks, I don't see why it should be an issue right now.
It's not how you start, but how you finish Either way Nate is making a case for that extension. Coach of the Month goes a long way, I'd think.
