It is raining so I thought I would explore the Mexican coast a bit with Google Earth and Navigation Charts.
Laguna San Ignacio looks pretty interesting on GE but I have no Charts for the lagoon. Thinking perhaps of taking the MarAzul down the Baja coast this coming winter, I should correct the over sight in Charts.
Checking the internet for who might publish a chart, I get all kinds of hits for Whale watching in San Ignacio.
Crap like this is just plain stupid:

"Baja: 5 days with gray whales, 5 days without Donald Trump"

"The whales are bottom feeders, but not in the style popularized by Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway. They are instead trusting."

Why would you alienate half your potential clients just the attract the unhappy?

It is really dumb to alienate potential customers.

Here's my best effort at a retort: "Come sail in our lovely undrained swamp!"

a person can actually dislike the president and still be happy....I'm proof. Life is pretty great all in all ....politics is a speck of dust on my desk compared to the things I enjoy day to day.

I have a very old fishing chart of Laguna San Ignacio (from a book). I am not sure how accurate it is now?

The northern entrance appears to be the deepest, at only 8’. The main channel drops to only 4’ about 1/3 of the way into the bay. The chart shows dry shoals at low tide right next to the main channel.

Also, this bay maybe a protected marine area now, and restricted to all boats. But I would need to double check this info to confirm.

I have only been there once, about 18 years ago. Drove in on a very rough dirt road, it is a very remote area.

    Thank you sir!

I have one made off this, but this is much better quality. I think this is about it for that Lagoon.
Yes, I believe it is closed to boats in past where the Crocker label, Jan. to March when the whales are in the estuary. Although apparently the locals can take the tourist out to see the whales.

I have passed the lagoon twice now without giving it a look, but I see the village of San Carlos in Bahai Magdalena is quite large now so this may be a good alternative.
I like to catch the Serra (Spanish Mackerel) and this looks like a good spot for them in that channel running from the North entrance to the South behind the Sand Is.
Should be able to stay out of trouble no farther in than this, not sure there is enough water for MarAzul further up anyway.

There is a village near by on Punta Abreojos. Perhaps I can glean a little local knowledge one way or another.

Ps. Much better chart, it is the same one but this is 2.5 x bigger, much more clear. I think I can up grade this with some more info I can get with Google earth and the forward scanning sonar on MarAzul. Should work for what I want.

That's disappointing. I thought there was a method to the madness.
