Gheee. This place is dead. Aren't you all excited at the coming season? It's going to be fun, looking at how we'll pick #1 at the next draft. Plus money (if any) to spend for 2 max players ... Come on now, cheer up guys!
Max players (who actually want to switch teams) more often are going to come via sign-and-trade because that's how they can get the most money (both in terms of contract length and maximum annual raises). So the other team will want something back, making cap space less important than trade-easy contracts (such as players on rookie scale, expiring contracts, and picks). Teams with big cap space are more likely to take on lopsided trades (in terms of salary) in order to acquire talent--such as taking on bad contracts in order to snag good ones at the same time. Or to take advantage of teams over the luxury tax by trading picks and cash for contracts.
