First off, this isn't bashing Jason Kidd at all. He's a great PG, but I'm glad he's still in New Jersey. I wasn't in favor of bringing over Kidd in the first place believe it or not, because it's not too often you get such a talented PG at his age. Plus, Parker just lead the team at the PG position to a championship, and Popovich wants to bench him? This is a team that isn't ripe with young talent, and signing Jason Kidd would have only made that situation worse. Now we have a young player who could be a superstar in the making, who still has his prime to go through, while Kidd has been in his prime, and probably won't be there too much longer. I hate to bring this up after some great games by Parker, but this only has made me much more satisfied with our decision. We really need to sign Parker to an extension as soon as possible. I think we can do it coming up next season, so we better get him locked in for good, because believe it or not when it's all said or done, he could be mentioned in the same breath as Duncan or David Robinson.

You weren't in favor of bringing in Jason Kidd when Tony Parker was having miserable days running the point and ending up in Pop's doghouse?? Don't fprget...this guy was about to be traded. It's funny. You want him out of town because he's garbage, but he plays perfect games for you guys and you demand an extension.

Tony was not going to be traded. There were teams that wanted to trade for him but went turn them down.
Well the thing about J-Kidd is that he will bring consistancy the whole season;IT seem Parker shows up only in the playoffs, there is nothing wrong with that though.lol.

Its the clippers!!! the spurs shot poorly and it was probably cause a lack of practice. coach pop should fire up the spurs and create a good mental state so the spurs could beat the lakers. thats what phil jackson did to his lakers! thats why we lost in a blowout. the lakers will eventually try to kick us while were down but if pop fires up his team we might have a chance. but he probably won't cause he sucks. the other day against golden state, what did he do he gave up!! half the players that were on the court in the final 4 minutes or so were bench players!! where was bruce bowen? he could have shot a three and might have won us the game! where was robert horry the "spurs killer"? he could have done the same. its all up to the coach and thats why pop sucks!</div> Real smart.

I wanted J-Kidd to come over here when I first heard the rumors but Parker has been playing like the best PG in the league. There is nothing wrong with being satisfied now that he has produced and proven himself.
Tony Parker would be better to have than Jason Kidd? Is this a joke thread? Tony Parker does good in the playoffs and all of a sudden he is better than one of the top 3 players in the last 5 years? How can you possibly justify that statement? Remember when Tayshaun Prince did great in the playoffs? Detroit passed on Carmello for Darko largely because they felt Tayshaun could become a star. All the Detroit fans were saying what you are saying about Parker. Now look who's laughing.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Wave:</div><div class="quote_post">Tony Parker would be better to have than Jason Kidd? Is this a joke thread?</div>No one has said that Wave. All I am saying is that sticking with Tony Parker has turned out to be a great move. Who knows if J-Kidd would have fit into this team. It all worked out and no this is not a joke thread. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Tony Parker does good in the playoffs and all of a sudden he is better than one of the top 3 players in the last 5 years? Well Tony Parker is a better fit for the Spurs offense because J.Kidd isnt a pick & roll point guard. When he isnt in the open court, he likes to run the motion offense in the half-court. So he can play off the ball. If you noticed how the Nets playing the half-court J.Kidd plays alot without the ball, thats apart of the motion offensive system. I cant really see kidd as a Pick & Roll pg, teams would just run behind the screens giving kidd the jumpshot all the time. That would limit what Kidd could do in the half-court. Also the Spurs dont have the type of athletes the Nets have, with the exception the center spot the Nets are extremely athletic. Kidd open court game needs the type of Athletes he has played with so far in his career. The Shawn Marion's, the young McDyess & now guys like RJ, Kittles, K-mart, these guys fit kidd's style perfectly. I dont think the Spurs have those type of open court players with the exception of Manu. So playing a more slow down style would be a big adjustment. So Parker is a better fit for the Spurs but it doesnt make him better than kidd or even in the same class as J.Kidd
Does anyone think Tony Parker can become better than Jason Kidd? Remember this kid is only 22 years old. He would be going to his senior year at college at this age. He still has time to grow into a top 3 point guard. I don't think anyone is foolish enough to think that Parker is better than Jason Kidd at this point. But I do think its okay to say that he has the tools to become a better player than Jason. He already has one more championship than he does and I foresee a lot more rings in his future. Why are we even comparing the two? They play the same position but their style of play is totally different. It's hard to say who runs the team better because one can argue that Jason has better stats than Parker does. But you can also say that Parker has more rings than Jason and is going to get a lot more.
Yea but wouldn't Kidd also have the rings if he was playing along side Duncan? I mean really not taking anything away from Parker but if a lot of PG's were playing along side Duncan, they would likely win a few rings of their own. Kidd, Cassell, Payton, Starbury, Miller, Baron, even Francis etc....
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post">Does anyone think Tony Parker can become better than Jason Kidd? </div> He has been pretty impressive so far in the playoffs, but no. Jason Kidd is pure PG that has amazing court vision and really is something special. Parker has shown he can really score some points but to me a great PG is a guy like Kidd. He isn't the greatest outside shooter but he's decent, and he is also an excellent defender. Parker really hasn't shown that he can play pure PG ball as far as distributing, and I really don't see anything special on his defense. I really haven't even paid attention to his defense acutally.. how is he on that end? I know he isn't very good on that end, but I really have no clue beyond that.
I said all along that Jason Kidd wasn't needed in San Antonio, keeping Tony Parker and letting him grow was always the best option. Kidd just wouldn't fit the style of play the Spurs like to run, Kidd has been seen to be very average when he isn't allowed to get out and run the ball. Of course It might work with Manu and Parker running the floor but overall the Spurs system is based on halfcourt basketball. Tony Parker can run both successfully and at 21 years old has still alot to learn and improve on which will make him an even scary player to guard for the future It's all about having a better fit in the NBA not who is the better overall player. Thats why having Parker ahead of Kidd was the right situation. Jermaine O'Neal was the guy that was the one everyone really wanted, him teaming up with Duncan basically mean the title would stay in San Antonio for the next 5-7 years. Jermaine was the one that got away missing out on, Jason Kidd was no big deal to me. Was never needed, however O'Neal truely was the one that got away which will stick in my mind for a long time. Had Larry Bird fired Isiah before signing JO to that big contract I would expect Jermaine would of signed for the Spurs.

It pissed me off how Indiana hamstrung him like that. He's a good guy and the SPurs would have been crushing teams this season. Tony Parker is perfect for the Spurs. He enables them to run the court and draw defenders in the paint and dish the ball outside. Pop did a smart move by integrating a motion offense into the system. When Duncan is out of the game, its a more motion offense, and it enables the team to show different things at defenses.
