<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano, making his first start in more than a month, left in the third inning of Wednesday's game with left elbow pain.Liriano came off the disabled list earlier this week after being shelved since Aug. 8 with a strained ligament in his throwing arm. The Twins hoped his return to the starting rotation would be the boost they needed to carry them to the postseason. The 22-year-old Dominican went 12-3 with a 2.19 ERA and was one of the favorites for the AL rookie of the year award before injuring his arm. Before, he combined with ace Johan Santana to form one of the most formidable one-two punches in the majors. He breezed through the first two innings on Wednesday against Oakland, throwing just 22 pitches. But after giving up a bloop single to Nick Swisher to start the third inning, Liriano came off the mound awkwardly after throwing a ball to Bobby Kielty.Team trainers and manager Ron Gardenhire came out to look at Liriano while the home crowd held its breath. After a short meeting, Liriano was pulled from the game and replaced by fellow rookie Matt Garza.</div>I have to post this in the middle of class. It's more important than learning. This cannot be realllllllllllllllllll. ERRRRRRRRR. Don't even think of letting him throw a ball until this winter! I don't want him back for the playoffs (if we make it)! :ranting: [IMG] [IMG]http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2586221

Lets be fair, there is no way to judge how serious this injury is. It may just be that being away from pitching for so long led to his arm tightening up and not being able to throw that many pitches effectively and will take some time to ease him back into pitching 7 innings a game. ....or he might be the next Kerry Wood. :whistling:

I hope you're right about the tighnening up...Don't say that. That's what my Computer Engeneering teacher said when he told me that he was taken out because of pain. But the Twins won't allow that. Even if that means sit him all of next season, I gurantee they'd do it.

[IMG] Gardy said postgame that he's done for the season and that Liriano did EVERYTHING right and the team did everything right and that he did something throwing that slider again. The best way for Twins fans to look at this is we've closed to 2 games without him and Bonser and Garza have both looked very good as of late. I'm not panicking at all and I hope most rational Twins fans won't either.</span></span></span>

Sucks for him and Twins fans..but as a Tigers fan I can't say i'm sad about it..Liriano and Santana would have been lights out in the postseason.

How many games has Liriano pitched? ZERO.Of course it's a huge loss to not have him around, but if anybody thinks the Twins are dead.......ha.</span></span></span>

Nothing against you or anything, but he said it happened to him. Torn ligament or whatever I think he said.

So long as the White Sox don't make the playoffs, I'll be happy. I'll have no care to watch October baseball once the Cardinals and White Sox are out of it

He said this before the MRI results were in.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (xpostxscript @ Sep 14 2006, 11:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>do you guys think Lirano will be healthly next year and as dominated he was like this season?</div>Is it even possible to dominate like that again? I don't think he'll be THAT good, because he was by a mile the best in the game when he was playing this year. I think he'll be very very very good though.
