The Blazers have 7 big men competing for 4 rotation spots. And Davis and Vonleh are very unlikely to re-sign here, because Portland is not going to offer much to retain then, whilst being over the luxury tax and having Swanigan and Collins on their rookie contracts. The Blazers should really add another guard or wing player to balance out the roster. I don't know what Vonleh's value is around the league, but he played well towards the end of last year. Marcus Smart was drafted in the same year as Vonleh, so they are in a simular contract situation. The Celtics are very thin up front, and likewise, may not want to spend a lot of money to retain Smart, since they are already over the luxury tax. I think this would be a great deal for Portland. In Jesus name, amen.
You would have said the same thing about every major trade that actually has taken place in the past 2 years.
He did look good in the playoffs last year. (Much higher 3 pt % than regular season) I do think he would fit well with Dame and cJ but he kind of fits well with Kyrie too. Much better than Jalen Brown does at SG. Maybe if Tatum can play SG then they will want to move Smart..........
I think if they knew they wouldn't be willing to retain him in FA, and they really need some big men, you'd make that kind of deal to compete in the playoffs.
I feel like the title is obvious enough that it's a suggestion, cuz it's a crack pipe dream. And I'm a Vonleh fan and think he'll eventually be a quality player in this league.
I don't like Smart. He drives into traffic and gets his shot blocked a ton. He plays great defense, but he is terrible on offense. I couldn't stand watching him in the playoffs.
Is it lack of knowledge of what's going on around the league or we just overvalue our players a ton? In any case this trade would never happen and would give Ainge a good laugh.
