Just saw it on NBA TV. It just looked like he barely hit the basket support padding with his head. He was not even going that fast. So hopefully it is all precautionary. Can't mess with your head.
Odds are they just want to keep him overnight for observation. Hopefully he doesn't develop swelling or edema.
Yea it looked like he got hit in the worst spot possible. OUCH. And he was playing decent too. Sucks seeing a guy get injured in the last second of the game like that.
Heard from MY pizza delivery boy that Smitty did sustain a concussion, but was never unconscious. He’s undergoing further testing at an area hospital. He is alert & talking.
Nolan will be fine, thank goodness. However, it sounds like he's done with summer league. In 1 1/2 games he scored 37 points, so (as far as I'm concerned) he average 24.67 PPG on 14 of 24 = 58.3% shooting. Pretty Damn Good for anyone, amazing for a guard.
Great to hear Nolan is doing well enough to be released. He came to SL with determination and proved that he deserves a chance to succeed in the regular season. I was impressed and hopefully he will make a good primary backup this year.
I was just watching the replay of the game on NBA TV, and it really didn't look that bad at first glance. I guess you never know though, so hopefully it's nothing serious, but the actual play didn't look bad at all. When I read about it, it sounded like he caught a mean elbow on the way to the basket and then hit the backboard hard. Watching the tape though, it seems like he barely grazed either. I guess you can never be too cautious though. Some of the worst injuries don't really look as gruesome to the naked eye as they really are. Maybe the momentum of Dragic's arm sent him to just graze the backboard enough that it messed up his neck. Hopefully his neck is fine and Portland was just being cautious.
As of this AM they said he was released from hospital, walking on his own, had a concussion. He'll miss the rest of summer league and needs to undergo NBA concussion program (basically extensive series of tests) before he can return to action. But he has full range of movement. Not great news, but could be much worse. Glad at least NBA takes concussion seriously.
