All politics aside, it’s a win for everyone. If it turns out Trump played a role or helps cement this into a real denuclearization I’ll applaud him.

Reading a few articles about this and there are many "ifs" surrounding it. Kim Jong un is out of food, fuel and money.....his people are hungry. South Korea is all about making lots of money....they need each other and maybe finally our troops can get the hell out of there

agreed, this might be the one area that he made some progress. However I am not willing to give him too much credit yet. I think Kim Jong Un has wanted more outside credibility and has been working towards this since he took power. Also their nuke test site is now unstable and unusable.

Trump appears to be a very minor player in this as they haven't even met yet and if the sanctions are working then maybe trump should take not and start implementing those sanctions that were announced but not implemented on Russia. Oh, that's right, he's in bed with their leader and Putin is pissing all over him. If I was South Korea I would be very cautious as North Koreas ultimate plan could be to get the USA out of there and and to take over all of Korea.

Russia and NK are two very different situations. Also I doubt the international community would allow a take over of South Korea, that would be suicide for Kim or the start of WW3 as China, Russia, Japan and the USA would all take sides. I guarantee China doesnt want that kind of action right next to their boarders. Kind of far fetch imo. I really feel like Kim's intentions are to be a legitimate part of the rest of the world. Im sure his ego loves all the praise he is receiving right now, and he has to be jealous of SK's economy. I think Kims biggest problem so far has been consolidating power so he can do what he wants, and moving forward his biggest problem will be retaining power as his people are slowly introduced to what they have been missing.

The credit I give Trump on NK is that he is not following traditional foreign affairs with them. It might be just dumb luck on his part but if Trump doesnt agree to meet with Kim then there is a good chance none of this other stuff happens. Other than that I agree he (we) have been minor players so far.

I think between Trump and China has convinced him for the sake of his dynasty he better denuclearize. At the same time, I think he has always figured he would do so with an understanding he can profit big time by opening up commerce with the South and remaining in power. Good for all involved, imo.
I know one thing, no way in hell Bush, Obama or Clinton's would be able to gain the Chinese respect enough to help engineer this kind of happening...They certainly had their shot and produced zero.
