QUOTE

Marc Stein of ESPN ranks the league’s threesome’s, starting in Boston. The Net combination of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson merit no more than a ranking of ninth, just behind the Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler and just ahead of Chris Paul and any of several Hornets. Stein suggests the trio doesn’t really play well together and notes their recent injury woes

It's vaguely presented, but I THINK he's just listing the second-tier trios, not ranking them . . . So Kidd/RJ/VC is somewhere between #6 and #9, and I think that is right. The only complaints about these rankings is that it includes two trios that aren't starting units. I guess that doesn't matter too much. Four out of the top five trios are in the west as we all know.

I'm increasingly happy with Wright as a sixth man. He can't create his own shot, but he plays very solid defense--he did a very good job on Wade--and does a little of everything: he gets a few rebounds, a few assists, a few steals, a few blocks, and shoots at a decent FG%. He has played pretty well the last two games; his offense was terrible against Boston but maybe he was focusing on defending Ray Allen, who he did a pretty good job against, I think. So, instead of the "top trios" list, if you were to put together a "top trio plus sixth man" list, I'd be happy withKidd-Carter-RJ-Wright, and I think they'd be up there as well, if you overlooked Wright's career history and focused on what he's shown so far this season. that's the list that the Duncan-Parker-Ginobili and Dirk-Josh Howard-JET trios really belong on, anyway. Wright has more steals and more blocks than turnovers, which is pretty good. It is pretty obscure, but there are only 14 players that have both more steals and more blocks than turnovers. Only four or five of them have had significant minutes.

The nets really have a decent core there. If you could add a good backup point (hopefully Marcus) and Boki from last year, then the non-big portion of their team would be one of the top in the league. You have a big problem with the bigs, but whatever.
