As another NBA trade Deadline Day looms, I took a look back over the past decade (ten seasons) with thoughts of compiling a plethora of Blazer trade day moves...after all, trade deadline day is one of the most exciting times of the year....right? In ten seasons, trade deadline deals are actually few and far between! Our best may very well be the waiving Oden’s contract. Yep, happened on trade deadline day. The only thing that year in fact. But our absolutely worse deal was: Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee were acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for: Will Barton, Victor Claver, Thomas Robinson, a conditional 2016 1st round pick (POR own) and multiple TPEs. Just awful! So as I get ready for bed and dream of tomorrow’s blockbuster deal for my beloved Trailblazers I will try not to get too excited. After all, over the past ten seasons, trade deadline day deals have truly been NOTHING! NADA. ZILCH! [the Nurkic trade did not take place on trade deadline day]
Contrary to popular opinion, that was a great trade. The awful thing was that Wes blew out his Achilles shortly thereafter, decimating the team. But that team, with then-Afflalo, would have been at least a WCF team.
If any of Harkless, Leonard or Turner get traded, will be one of our most exciting and important trade deadline moves in team history! Why? Because we will have berid this team of Olshey’s hadcuffs! [then get rid of Olshey! Unless of course he trades Harkless, Leonard and Turner for Lebron and that Boston pick!]
Blazers, Beavers and Ducks all screwed the pooch in February. Jeez it's a boring time to be a sports fan in this state.
Was the Outlaw/Blake for Camby on deadline day? What about Crash for pick? That was one of the best deals ever!
Agreed, we made that trade for a championship run. We were the second best team in the west and don't forget Afflalo got injured and when he came back he was pretty much playing with one arm.
If your just saying "trade deadline day" instead of near the trade deadline then your going to be find very few if any potentially game changing trades made on the deadline day. The reality is that very few blockbuster trades get made near the trade deadline every year, and just like in poker some of the best moves are moves that you did not make.
We don't know that. They looked good together for a few games but that team played some bad basketball before Wes got hurt. Afflalo wasn't going to get us to WCF. We probably still lose to Grizzlies and if not, lose to the Warriors in the second round.
Here is a link to Trade Deadline Day deals (Many deals happen a day or two before the deadline day) https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/transactions/trade-deadline And yes, this may be our best trade deadline deal in a decade (2012) Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams and a conditional 2012 1st round pick (NJN own) were acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the New Jersey Nets in exchange for: Gerald Wallace and multiple TPEs. Landed is Lillard!
I really hate this discussion BUT the Blazers were in the middle of winning their 5th game in a row (4 of those against West playoff teams Spurs, Thunder, Clippers, and Mavs) and were likely going to finish as the 2nd seed when Wes went down. They were really starting to click. Who knows who they would've played in the 1st round but they wouldn't have played the Warriors until the WCF.
Yes, the team was playing great and Afflalo added depth, but was not the principal reason we were playing well and clicking. And when we lost Wes....well, we lost a very good player that was playing at his nba peak! That sucked
I’m REALLY hoping something big happens! We are so stuck in mediocrity it’s killing me. Nurkic + Turner to Clippers For Jordan Harkless + pick for Hood This takes care of us having to deal with overpaying Nurkic, gets rid of Turner and Harkless. We’ll just never get rid of Leonard
How does that one make us better? Nurkic is a better offensive player/passer/pick setter then Jordan and we would lose Jordan this summer leaving us without a center and without money to pay a center.
