Bryant said he's more interested in adding a fourth championship trophy to his mantel than collecting his first MVP award. "I don't play for numbers," he said. "I don't play for anything else but to win. "But that being said, I think Dirk is having a phenomenal year."</div> Source
Not to bash on Kobe, but from reading that, it seems like Kobe talks more about how he's "changed" rather than Dirk truely deserving the MVP. Though, i do agree.
If the Mavs finish as the best team, Nowitzki has the best chances to win it. But this remains to be seen. Futhermore, Kobe is speaking pretty much the truth: I would also rather have a championship than an MVP award
LOL i remember Billups saying that he deserved it last year because they had the best record... this just shows how Kobe has changed for the past 2-3 years... He also probably knows that the Haters (the writers and columnists who vote the MVP) still and will never vote for him on the MVP ballot...

<div class="quote_poster">Omarion Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Hmmm, so would Kobe give the award to someone else (who actually wants it) if he won?</div> of course he'll take it himself if he gets it How can anyone pass up an MVP trophy that is served to them on a silver platter?

Maybe the question might've been something like "Does Dirk deserve the MVP award more than you do?" His quotes seem to be more focussed on him than why he thinks Dirk deserves an MVP. Dirk's having a great year, but he's not the main reason for the team's success. Avery Johnson's coaching, Josh Howard's breakout season, the addition of Devean George and Buckner are the reason for this year's success. Dirk doesn't make any of his teammates better, but he is doing the best job in making sure his team succeeds. He's a top 3 candidate for sure.
<div class="quote_poster">dallasdude Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Dirk doesn't make any of his teammates better, </div>That's debatable. Knowing you're with a consistent scorer who can get his pretty much whenever he wants gives you confidence as a player. And Dirk hardly ever shoots his team out of a game which is backed up by his stellar FG%. True, he's not an adept passer but it's not like he's a solo player out there only thinking about his stats. Plus he brings a good combo of passion and professionalism that not all players have

I think DIrk wold be a good teammate, but the thing I wanted to piont out was it's weird a Mavs fan saying Dirk doesn't make the players around him better, while a Spurs fan arguing that point Dirk should have won he MVP last year, but he should definetely win it this year, though Nash is putting up nice stats, Dirk's team has taken out the Suns quite a few times.

Dirk's a bit of an overrated superstar IMO. He does well for himself and doesn't hurt the team, but hasn't proved he can carry the team over the hump in pressure situations consistently.

Devean George has been great off the bench and ofcourse you have to mention Josh Howard's All-Star game so far... Kobe is funny imo. ;D Ofcourse it's glad to hear that he cares only about the W now. But isn't there any chance Nash getting it if he continues his superb game and even when he continues his game and the Suns will end up with the best record, they still wouldn't give it to him ?
<div class="quote_poster">dallasdude Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">but hasn't proved he can carry the team over the hump in pressure situations consistently.</div>check his FG%, RPG and PPG in the playoffs versus regular season. He may not have as many amazing shots as Kobe or MJ but he definitely steps up more often than not when the heat is on.
