Nuggets Payroll $77Million

With second-round pick Sonny Weems soon expected to sign and fill out the roster, the Nuggets are in line to start the season with a payroll of more than $77 million, $4 million less than last season.

The Nuggets spent the offseason in cost-cutting mode, dealing Marcus Camby to the Los Angeles Clippers in a salary dump. Had Camby stayed, they were staring at a payroll in excess of $86 million.

With Weems expected to sign for the minimum of $442,114, he would be Denver's 13th player, which, barring an injury, is how many are expected to start the season on the roster. Weems' signing would push the Nuggets' salary-cap number to $77.48 million, which would be $6.33 million past the NBA's dollar-for-dollar luxury- tax threshold of $71.15 million.

Denver's big offseason expenditure was re-signing J.R. Smith to a three-year deal worth about $16.5 million. His cap number for next season is $4.985 million.
