"Manu Ginobili is the gold standard of second-round picks, drafted 57th by San Antonio a few days after the Spurs defeated the Knicks in the 1999 NBA Finals. Years later, the Spurs would use the 56th pick to select Luis Scola, while the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Marc Gasol 48th. Ginobili, Scola and Gasol are the exceptions, not the rule in the second round. Most of the players selected in the second round of Thursday's NBA draft will have average careers at best, assuming they even make a roster. The lower they go, the odds of carving out an NBA career decrease accordingly. Assuming the Knicks don't trade into the first round, they won't be on the clock until the 48th pick. They would have drafted 16th but they traded that pick three years ago to the Houston Rockets in the Tracy McGrady deal. The thinking at the time was to clear salary-cap space to make a run at LeBron James. Oh, well." Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...-player-48th-pick-nba-draft-article-1.1103697
