The New York Yankees won over the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4-0. Starting for the Yankees was C.C. Sabathia and he pitched a complete game shut out. C.C Sabathia had a sharp breaking ball that he was locating on both sides of the plate and a great change up going. He had great velocity on his fastball and was hitting 95 mph consistently on the radar gun. He was throwing a slider that looked more like a “slurve” that was down and slicing in and it had a lot of bite on it. He was throwing his change up down and away to righties and they were striking out. He was throwing it not only down but on the outside part of the plate. He was also throwing his breaking ball down and in to righty batters. Sabathia was throwing his breaking ball in to lefties and he was impossible to hit. He was throwing strikes all night and his pitches were over powering. Like most pitchers, their velocity is better when it’s warm and CC Sabathia was pitching in good 70 degree weather in Baltimore. You could see sweat coming from his fore head during the game and that’s a good sign. He was throwing 95 mph in the last inning. The other thing I’m sure made Sabathia feel comfortable was pitching with a three run lead before he even stepped on the mound. The Yankee dugout seemed uplifted after Alex Rodriguez’s three run home run. It energized the whole team and you can feel that it energized C.C Sabathia as well. You saw relief on Yankee player’s faces that they were playing with a lead and they seemed happy to have A-Rod back. I’m glad A-Rod is back because he can lift the line up out of slumps when some one is not hitting and Tex should see a lot better pitches with A-Rod in the line up. You have to give credit to Francisco Cervelli for calling a great game especially since Sabathia pitched a complete game shut out. A great pitcher cannot pitch great without good communication with their catcher and they had it tonight. I loved when Cervelli pumped his fist after the last out of the game.
