Oden's Kneecap

Oden's kneecap, Big guy's frailty or Medical staff's mis-diagnoses?

  1. It's the crack from the Magette incident and Medical team missed it.

Quick question to the board. What's the feeling on Oden's kneecap splitting by itself off a jump vs. Oden's kneecap having a pre-existing crack from the Magette incident that never healed completely and eventually broke. Given the Medical team's track record regarding keeping players from playing long enough (Blake shoulder 08/09, Webster foot 08/09, Batum shoulder summer 08/09, Rudy back summer 08/09) what do you suppose the odds are they are concluding they themselves are not at fault to CYA?

I have never heard of even one incident in sports involving a patella splitting in half due to a jump only...until Oden's injury.

Judging from the MRIs I never saw, I feel in my armchair expert's opinion that either the condition was pre-existing, or it wasn't pre-existing. Either way, I blame BLANKY.

I also concur ... in my professional opinion.

    I also blame BLANKY.

If BLANKY had stayed on his man, Oden wouldn't have had to leap like a gazelle to stop Brooks. Even if BLANKY was on the bench. It was definitely his fault.

Oh Come on guys, how can you put this all on Blake? At least part of the blame falls on Coach Nate - who had BLANKY starting to begin with.

Not to mention the team's medical staff who got BLANKY's shoulder repaired last summer so he could even be in the lineup this year at all.

Other. It's a freak injury that's not related to the Maggette injury and if you think it is you're just looking to jump to conclusions and grab onto anything you can find.

100% from Maggette. I am not worried about this injury at all and am just wishing Greg well wishes in getting back.

I am confident that when Greg comes back, he is going to be better than ever.

I blame PapaG. His negative waves were the cause of Oden's injury.

Glad you are here to bring level headedness and informed expert opinion to a board of armchair GM's, Coaches, Players and Doctors. I'm glad your opinions are always couched in the language of uncertainty and that they are your opinion and yours alone. Where as everyone else states their opinions as that of unassailable expert fact.

We get it that no one on the board is an expert. This is an opinion poll not a peer reviewed scientific journal entry.

It's a pity I don't get to review my own work at my job. Turns out they have additional experts who have no stake in my decisions review my work to see if it is accurate. Luckily Blazers medical staff are omniscient, omnipotent and beyond the fault of us mere mortals and therefore they are able to look at their own work without any vested personal interest such as desire to maintain employment.

Blazer fans better hope it was the result of the first injury being mistreated.

If this happened because he is just that brittle, his odds of becoming an "elite" center are dismal.

    Just having fun.

I can go back to the first injury when many refused to believe that Oden could be injury prone (eventhough some reports expressed concerns about this before the draft). Injury after injury I would hear the same arguments. I haven't read through the Oden stuff this time around but figure the same arguments are still being made.

Don't get me wrong, I love what Oden can bring to this team, but my fears are playing out, we are dealing with an injury prone player.

It's David Stern's fault actually for allowing Magette to wear an exposed metal brace on his knee...

How so? You're the poster questioning the professionalism/comptetency of the Blazer's medical staff.

I want your "expert" opinion, although you did play your hand earlier in this thread.

Spill the beans. Where did the Blazer doctors, plus Dr. James Andrews as a consultant, miss on Oden and his knee?
