Should the NBA be allowed to suspend/ban players based on their actions off the court? I say this after having read of 2 separate cases (one of rape, one of harrassment) made against Zach Randolph recently. Both of them are very public, and the rape case against him is specifically pretty graphic (you can read the report online). The rape case also includes a quote from Randolph allegedly saying: "I'm a gangster, not a Blazer." Now, I know what NBA players do off the court is none of our business, BUT given Randolph's history, shouldn't the NBA suspend him for the stuff he's getting into? Yeah, none of this has been offically proven and what not, nor has it been decided by court, but think of it this way: If you were running a company, and one of your employees continously gets in trouble with the law for posession, rape, and assault cases, wouldn't you suspend them? Or atleast threaten them to smarten up? I don't think the NBA should interfere if the player if players are sued for things like hitting a fan in the face by mistake with the ball (Jermaine O'Neal), but if a player is CONTINOUSLY getting in (potentially serious) trouble time and time again; isn't this the stuff that the NBA is trying to avoid? Changing where NBA players place thier wristbands doesn't do a damn thing...what sense do those actions make [to clean up the NBA's on court image] when the biggest problems exist off-court?
