As most of you know, I'm an Auxilliary Officer for my local Police Department. Being a Police Officer has always been my dream. And today, I got my first taste. I joined the Department in January and today was my first official uniform event. I've done a few small assignments and done emergency call work, but nothing like a real event. This morning we had the Memorial Day Parade. I was so excited/freaked out about it, I didn't sleep at all last night, I had my new uniform, new boots, badge, belt, everything laid out. This morning we all met for our briefing with our whole group, I was assigned with Craig, our Auxilliary's big/tough guy, he's a Corrections Officer and he's about 6'2" 300 and covered in tattoo's. We got assigned to the busiest intersection on the Parade route. Four of us got in a police squad and drove out to our spots, unknowing my vest got caught in the door and was flying around. (I didn't realize until I was a bunch of women werelaughing and pointing). We got to our point and waited for the parade to start so we could stop traffic, since I didn't know what I was doing I was nervous as hell. Then we heard the sirens and Craig told me to follow him out. I was standing in the middle of the intersection with hundreds of people looking at me. We only had to block off one road so Craig left me out on the road by myself as the parade moved on behind me, I had to tell dozens and dozens of people for over an hour different directions to get to where they wanted to go, it was insane. Then, the parade ended and we had to do real traffic enforcement. I stood away from Craig who took on most of the work and signals cares and whatnot. People were cussing me out and it was frustrating, but I was warned of it. Then Craig yelled at me and signaled to the bar across the street, we let the lights do the traffic for us and Craig was on the radio, there was a fight at Jitters, a popular Menasha bar. It was only 10 in the morning and there was a fight between a couple of trailor trash. Craig tried to seperate them and I had to take one of them down (the guy was tiny). I took him down and I could feel the tension in his arms, so I put my shoulders into it and cuffed him as a few Menasha officers came in. It was freaking crazy. After the other officers came in, we got to leave after telling them what happened, our ride must have thought we left, so we had to walk 6 blocks back to the department and each block we had to move the street blockers....It was pretty cool walking back seeing the kids with the American flags waving at you...it was so wierd to me at first that I looked around to see if they were waving to me or not...it was a cool feeling, especially being in your home town. I don't know whats going to happen with the fight, if I will have to get called back in, but this morning was pretty awesome and I will never forget it.

Wait, BCB, do you get to carry a gun? Like are you an actual cop or do you normally just push papers?

I'm only an auxilliary officer, I can place people under arrest, cuff them, use force. We are essentially a Community Service Officer but we get to get our hands dirty and have more fun.
An officer today made an arrest on a serial killer. His name is Kevin (whatever BCB's last name is) or otherwise known as "BCB" online as posters at BBW would like to call him.

That sounds a bit hectic.

The parade started in front of the department so it was all close by.
