With more playing time, and being allowed to make mistakes... He could turn into a pretty damn good NBA player.
But he wasn't going to get that opportunity with the Blazers. Playing time doesn't come for players who make mistakes on a playoff team when you're young and playing out of control.
I'm a Barton fan, I thought he'd make a huge jump after what he showed last season. But he didn't... Not like Nards.
You can say similar things about 30 players that aren't even on NBA rosters. If a team gave them tons of opportunities they'd produce. But winning teams don't have those opportunities available. Young players need to prove themselves just as Nic Batum did.
I'm happy the Blazers are winning and can let crap teams such as the Celtics, Nuggets, Knicks, Lakers, 6ers take chances and lose games on developing fringe NBA players. Those teams can basically be the minor league for the winning organizations.
