For those who want to insist that the end of our postseason is attributable to biased officiating, conspiracy theories, anti-small-market bias, etc...any chance you would be so kind as to confine it to this location? I have a feeling it will make for a lovely thread.

    Thanks.

Bayless and Roy were both obviously fouled on three point attempts in the 4th quarter and there was no call. Bullshit.

I really don't see how you could argue that there isn't a bias in the NBA. The league lives and dies by its stars. The LeBrons, the Wades, the Kobes... you don't think the NBA wants LeBron and Kobe matched up in the Finals? It's all a fucking show. Every year I forget about all the bullshit from the playoffs, and every year I watch us get raped by the officials. I watched it happen in Houston last year, and I watched it happen in Phoenix this year. I can't think of a single other major sport that is controlled like the NBA is. How often do you see Refs from the NFL completely fuck a team over for an entire game? Sure, they miss a call here or there, but I'm talking a one-sided effort from the officials. Baseball is the same way. Miss call here or there, but not nearly the same influence. It becomes harder and harder to watch this shit every year.

Agree 100%. Its really the only major sport where the officials can have such a huge impact on the outcome of games without being over-the-top obvious. (although it is that obvious)

If by "officials" you mean Nate McMillan I completely agree.

Blame Nate and KP. Blame Stern and the refs. Blame injuries and bad luck.

At the end of the day, the buck stops with the players.

I thought Portland got the benefit of the ref's whistles tonight... can't blame the calls at all. Amare, Grant Hill and Jason Richardson (a guy I've bagged on many times in his career) were all tremendous tonight. Injuries are a wild card and of course Portland was snakebitten in this regard with 3 of their top 6 talents out or very limited. Given that, the better team won.

hopefully the club fares better with the injury bug next year

As someone who has been to a major league baseball umpiring school and ump'd HS and American Legion games, one of the basic things you learn is that when something looks wrong- it is wrong. As an example, if I'm working the dish and a player's bat comes thru in slow motion at an odd angle, it hit the catcher's glove whether you hear it or not. We train for that stuff. Accordingly, in the NBA when a shooter like Rudy or Roy or Bayless has a 3-pt shot fall 4-6 feet short the ref should know by instinct they were either swept or their elbow was hit. I counted 4 times one of our shooters was clearly hit on the elbow and the ball fell way too short and the refs (Dulaney 3 of those times) let the foul go. That's very amateurish referring and may have tipped this game and of itself. I had no problem with much of the other no calls as they were letting the teams play, but those and the flops the Suns got easily equaled more than 9 points for the Suns.

Terrible way to lose such an important game.

Did the officials force the Blazers to shoot .380 as a team?

Who knows? What if we made 9 of the 12 free throws they blew? What if the flops aren't called? What about that ball out of bounds that was clearly off Dudley that the ref decided to give to the Suns and they score? All of that could have changed our shot selection as the Suns got more desperate.

I'm not saying it was a biased game, just can't understand how refs miss easy calls. These are supposed to be our best refs and while I like the way the game was controlled, I just don't understand how they let so much get away.

Yeah, the 2-3 fouls on the follow-through's of Bayless and Roy were completely uncalled, and contributed to our poor shot %, and our loss. I also agree with the out of bounds call, IIRC that was a pivotal point in the game where we were making our comeback.

I do blame the ref's for about 10 points, but I really have to say I blame Nate as well. Nate fucking McMillian needs to get up in the fucking Ref's EAR like Alvin fucking Gentry, ALL FUCKING night that jackass was swaying the referees, what's Nate do? Sit there with his fucking arms folded across his chest, calling stupid plays from the bench. All the while our team can't figure out in 6 games how to fucking LOSE a double team on your star players.

We lost tonight because of a healthy dose of incompetent Nate and a dash of shitty cock in ass by the refs.
