    You're being too kind.

Ian Thorpe > Pieter van den Hoogenband > Michael Phelps

Well we don't go around claiming we have the best track and field athletes.

I think Michael Phelps is pretty good for a country who doesn't give a crap about swimming outside of the Olympics. Even our secondary athletes are top tier.

So why do you harp on about having the best and deepest swimming team when the World Champs roll around?

[IMG] No idea what you're talking about. It's probably the American ego at work.

The only thing I knew about Michael Phelps was that he had a chance to break Mark Spitz's record. I didn't know if we had a deep swimming team or what.

So how about that relay race. Keller and Thorpedo down the stretch was amazing. Phelps started off to strong for the Aussies to catch up though.

    Phelps Bows Out Of Relay

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ATHENS, Greece - Michael Phelps ended his magnificent Olympics with a magnanimous gesture. He matched Mark Spitz's record of four individual gold medals in the pool, then gave up a coveted spot on the 400-meter medley relay team to Ian Crocker _ whom Phelps had just beaten.</div>

Truly one of the biggest stars at the Olympics and he represented his country well. Hopefully Klete Keller can lead the USA to another victory over Australia in the 400 relay [IMG] .

Thorpe is better than Phelps in the 200m freestyle but overall I think Michael Phelps is the best swimmer in the world.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Supersonic:</div><div class="quote_post">Thorpe five golds > Phelps four.</div> Thorpe only has 1 this year, the only Olympics he has competed in with Phelps.

Also... did anyone see Jeremy Wariner run? He was so far ahead in the 400m that he slowed down 15m before the finish line and still got 1st. Looks like a beast for the US.

Phelps' brilliance is unfortunately evened out by Gary Hall Jr being a tosser though.

Ah who am I kidding, I've got nothing [IMG]

Except of course for the World Champs and ton of world records, not to mention being the most successful swimmer of all time. We'll see where Phelps is in a few years time.

After all, I remember LaBradford Smith scored 40 on MJ once. [IMG]

Did you just compare a scrub having a lucky game to an athlete winning seven medals in the Olympics?

I can't really tell if you were serious or not, though.

Haha, I love Phelps, seriously. Absolute superstar, although I still rate Thorpe higher when it comes to freestyle. Although it hurts him only having freestyle as his weapon, while Phelps has the butterfly in his arsenal too.

I just hope Maurice Green fails, his arrogance really irks me. Imagine having 'G.O.A.T' tattooed on yourself.
