Which guyz do you want the rockets to draft???? I feel that houston has a great future front line and has needs in the backcourt. I believe we need shooting guard who can nail shots that are contested. If i had my way i would draft richard roby. He is a prototypical shooting guard being 6'6" in height very atheletic and one of the best shooters in college. Your thoughts???
Since we need a draft thread anyway, I stickied this and change the thread title. Anyway, even though I haven't watched too much college ball, I'm a bit hesitant to draft Richard Roby. From NBADraft.net (as wrong as they can be) it says that he has some aggressiveness, working hard, and strength problems. Sounds a bit too much like Stromile Swift to me. Plus, I'm pretty sure with the situation we're in currently, the Rockets can draft someone much better. Some guys I want the Rockets to look into are (college ball watchers correct me): Rodney Carney: If we lose a couple more games, he's well within reach. Supposedly a good shooter, can get a bunch of steals, pretty good defender, has a lot of quickness, and has a lot of athleticism. The knock on him is that he can't create too much for himself and others and that he tends to force some shots up. However, with Yao and McGrady created open shots for him, I don't think it would be too much of a problem. Shelden Williams: If we ever actually trade off Howard and Swift, this guy would be perfect. He's got nice fundamentals, is a hard worker, and has a huge wingspan so he plays taller than he really is. In addition, he would be playing great weakside defense next to Yao and also, can shoot out to fifteen or twelve feet (aka Juwan Howard). The problem is that he's geared to play half court sets, but really, that isn't too much of a problem since Van Gundy plays sets 95% of the time anyway.
but man drafting richard roby would be like drafting jj reddick that shoots a little worse but has actual nba size build and more defensive capabilities as well as being able to do more other than shoot like rebound and defend better
I'm liking the following for this team. JJ Redick : For the Rockets he is perfect because Wesley gets so many open look 3's because of the double teams that this guy knocks them down for fun. Rajon Rondo: Epitome of god mixing a small forward and a point gaurd together. His Wing span is so big it comes to his knees. Shot blocker and rebounds 8 a game for a 6-2 gaurd. Ronnie Brewer/Maurice Ager: Perfect at the 2 gaurd position, both slash and penetrate. Hassan Adams: Unfortunately, he might be taken before the second round, but Rockets should not get him with their first pick. He slashes and scores and does everything except his hieght is a problem. Hopefully we land him first in second round.
Now that i have seen a lot more of the college players play i am convinced that if houston can acquire another pick around the 14-18 area our season next year will be a lot better. If we have two first round picks in that area we could draft two of the best shooters in the ncaa in jj reddick and richard roby whom both will help this team a lot. Reddick you can pair up with t-mac and yao real easily becuz he just makes every open shot. richard roby can also do that but has a lot more of an ability to create for himself making him the ideal sub for mcgrady and reddick and a better pair for yao if tracy on bench. Your thoughts?

He's a high volume shooter, meaning he needs to attempt a bunch of shots before he actual gets hot, so do we actually have enough touches on this team to allow Redick to do that? Plus he's a liability on the defensive end and might not transition into the NBA well because of his size and quickness. At his height, it would be harder for him to get his shot over the other taller guards in the NBA and because he isn't exactly the quickest guy, can't defend other players like Wesley could in his prime.
I dunno about his defence but with yao and tracy reddick would get too many open shots and reddick just does not miss any of these open shots. I don't c how he is a high volume shooter he shoots a high percentage and alsways makes open shots we need someone to make the open shots. His defence will probably be a liability but he plays with heart something van gundy convets aka bowen.

Basically, I'll sum it up for you. Redick is a guy that needs around twenty to twenty five shots a game in order to be effective. For an example, the first eight or so shots he'll miss, but then will heat up for the next ten or twelve to kill the other team. Thats like ten for twenty shooting right there, so you're right, it is a high percentage. But the point is that he needs a bunch of shots to get into his shooting groove. Can we afford to give twenty shots to a role player? His defense, IS in fact, not that great. The difference between Bowen and Redick would be that while they both have heart, Bowen can actually play defense while Redick can score (but needs a lot of shots).
What do you think of richard roby then. He is one of the top shooters in the college game but is mad inconsistent but atheletic and can become a good defender. what do you think of him?

I haven't watched enough him to really critique him and nor is there too much descriptions of him online other than NBA Draft (which isn't that great). Ideally, if he's a good shooter, it would be a nice addition but here's what I'm looking for in a shooting guard- needs good defense, hustles, and can shoot. Perhaps TmacGarnett knows a bit more about him since he watches college ball more?
What do you all think of Ronnie Brewer? I think we might be in position to draft him and he could turn out to be a hell of a player for us. He is a kid who is 6'7" but plays point guard. He is a tough defender and has great ability to handle the ball and create for others as well as himself. He has a pretty good jump shot. Shooting a pretty high percentage. Weakness is that he needs space to get that shot off because of his irregular shooting form which is unfixable. Thoughts?
Because of everyone's hype about Ronnie Brewer, I've been watching him and I think he will be a great fit for the team, although I don't know if he's ready for NBA basketball. He is actually a great shooter, a good passer, athletic and will try hard defensively. He was also effective in the clutch, as I saw him in one game win with a 3 point dagger against Florida.
The knock on him is that he needs the ball to be effective, kind of like Marquis Daniels. I'm not really sold on his outside shot, which would be a must in a shooting guard for us, and he's a kind of player than needs to dribble the ball around alot before he can score, pass, or create. Not sure we need too many more creators with McGrady and Alston on the team.
Rodnet Carney or Randy Foye if they are gone draft JJ or a PF and shoot for hassan adams in second round.
I disagree i think Brewer is the perfect fit. He give us a third scorer thats more all around and can still play pretty tough defence. He also doesn't need the ball to be effective like today when he was moving with out the ball to get open shots. He also displays great court vision and passing that you do not expect from a 6'7" guy. That also means he can create easy shots for alston mcgrady yao and especially swift for dunks. Yet he still can hit his open shots. I personally think he is exactly what we need plus he could be a perfect backcourt partner to undersized head who could guard the point while he guards the shooting guard if head keeps developing to start.

A guy who can create baskets for himself and others, is athletic, and has size. Too many great players have come into the league with the "doesn't have an outisde shot" critique. That doesn't bother me at all. A good player can develop that shot, or make up for it in other ways (like a Daniels or, hell, a Wade). I think we need size, athleticism, and quickness right now much more than some slow guy who can only hit an outside shot. Who knows how healthy McGrady will really be next year.

Ronnie Brewer at 6'7 is a perfect fit. This guy can shoot, but can play point gaurd and passes the ball before shooting or even thinking about his points, but has the ability to score. This can be very useful especially with TMAC and Yao. I still like Rodney Carney. I would be happy with either.
ESPN's take on them: Rodne Carney Ronnie Brewer Randy Foye I haven't seen any of them play (rarely watch college basketball). Based solely on this description of their games, I'd prefer Brewer, Foye, and Carney -- in that order.
My apologies on Brewer. After watching him in the Arkansas game, I must say, I was impressed. He looks like he really can help run the offense and knock down shots when needed. However, I'm not sure he'd fall all the way to our draft pick unless some of the lower teams win a couple games and we continue losing. Here's my preference- Brewer, Carney, Foye.
Right now as we continue to slip our draft pick keeps rising so he is a real possibility. After watching Gonzaga games i am convinced Adam Morrison does not have superstar potential and might be a below average player if he doesn't fix his weaknessess. Like today in the beginning he failed to do anything against an agressive 6'3" defender from Indiana while the NBA is filled with aggressive defenders that are 6'6" most notabaly Bruce Bowen/Ron Artest. I believe if he doesn't show anything against some small college defender hes gonna have a hard time in the nba. Even JJ Reddick does better with these defenders by running them off of picks with decent speed. I don't even see that in Morrison. I believe if this continues his stock my come pummeling down and even if he does fall to us we should not draft him. What do you all think of Sean Dockery though?? He looks like a tough nosed defender that has a subpar offensive game. Do you think we will acquire a low second round pick and draft him?
