does it mean rockets can never get a home court adv over utah since utah is top of its division? no matter if rox better than utah or not?.....
<div class="quote_poster">steam03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">does it mean rockets can never get a home court adv over utah since utah is top of its division? no matter if rox better than utah or not?.....</div> No. We simply have to have more wins than them. If we tie they get it. If there's a tie it goes: 1)Division win % (if in same division) 2)Conference win % (if in same conference) 3)Wins against top/playoff teams in both conferences (including teams tied for 8th) 4) 5) 6)Point Differential I looked it up a few weeks ago and can't remember So, since we are in the same conference #2 applies. I don't think we can get a better conference win% than Utah. _W L PCT GB HM RD CONF DIV PF PA DIFF STRK L10 48 30 .615 17 29-9 19-21 29-19 9-6 101.1 98.6 +2.6 Lost 5 4-6 >Utah 50 29 .633 15 ? 26-13 24-16 26-23 7-8 96.4 91.5 +5.0 Won 3 6-4 >Houston Man I can't wait for the playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">steam03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">but we R beating them in W and lower # in L now...how come we are not ranked 4th yet? /</div> If a team finishes as the division champs, such as Utah has in the Northwest, it's assured of a top four finish in the conference standings regardless of its record. So the Rockets can't finish fourth in the standings this season, doesn't matter what happens. However, win/loss records will determine who has homecourt, not standings. So provided Houston finish with a better record than Utah, they will get homecourt, even though it will be 4) Utah vs. 5) Houston. Simply put, in the playoffs it's a team's record that matters for determining homecourt, not standings.
For all intents and purposes, a 5-seed with home court advantage is equal to a fourth seed. There would be probably be less confusion if they just made the rule, "A division winner is guaranteed a top-6 seed", and other than that seed everyone in the conference by record. The matchups would be basically the same, and I don't think you'd have these scenarios where a higher seed doesn't have home court advantage.
Man if Rockets can beat Jazz in 6 games which I am predicting, I dont know what the heck I'd do. I'd go crazy! I want to see Yao, Tmac, and the Rockets get past first round. And hopefully, we kick Dallas' ass too. Lets go Houston!
Invalid Video Link Saw it on ESPN last night, man I'm pumped! That shriek he made was a bit disturbing. Still 10x better than Dirks, that one is wack.
<div class="quote_poster">Rockets rule Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think if we can get past Utah we can easily beat Dallas then beat the Spurs our the Suns in 7 games</div> I don't know about Dallas. I think they, along with the Suns, are the toughest teams for the Rockets to beat. Welcome to the forum!
Well it's gonna be hard to beat Utah. Our two main stars are better than theirs, but Utah collectivley plays better as a team. They have a better bench, a better coach, and they win in more ways than defense. In order for us to win Tmac's gonna have to average at the least 30+pts & 7assist. He's gonna have to be superman in every game. The key factor is are we gonna be hitting our jumpers. We're primarily a jumpshooting team who lives & dies by the 3. Basically the margin of error for us is much slimmer because of our style of play. Utah isn't a great shooting team, but they do get to the free throw line. Which is something we're terrible at doin.

Sloan has won longer and more efficiently than JVG. Both are disciplinarians, but Sloan more diverse in his strategies.
<div class="quote_poster">steam03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">easily beat dallas? even if we beat dallas...it woludnt b an easy one</div> I hate reffering back to 2004 but we almost beat an identical Dallas team with only Mcgrady and Yao playing well now that we have Head and Hayes and Alston and the X factor Shane Battier I think we can beat Dallas in 6 games

If we play smart then we should take care of Utah in 6 games or less. And I don't believe Tmac will need to average 30 against them in order for us to beat them (although it would be nice). <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Still 10x better than Dirks, that one is wack. </div> Why of course it's wack.....it is Dirk "I'm scared as hell to take the last shot" Nowimpsi that we're talking about.....
