i would trade kidd because hes aging for kevin garnett.because kg would give you 20 and 10 a night and that low post man they need and than pick up a free agent point guard or sign one

I seriously doubt Minny will trade KG for Kidd. It would be ironic though, two players who want to play with each other, get traded for each other.

my three guesses for kidd would be, if he gets traded its gonna be either lakers, wolves or rockets but he could be traded to another team. im not sure. other than that i think krstic RJ and VC will stay in NJ

It's all good man. I don't mind. [IMG]

I think the Swift thing is on everyones list. It's been said thousamds of times and I'm sorry to bring it up again. Other than that getting healthy and gelling is a priority. With Krstic still getting better, and everyone else still around, getting used to eachother and getting know each other better is what I think this team should focus during the offseason.

JW and Bonzi for Kidd wouldn't help us in any way. We don't need Bonzi off the bench, and Williams just isn't enough of a team/floor leader to fill in Kidd's spot.

T-Mac for Kidd will never happen, nor will Yao for Kidd.

I think that a really really good trade would be, Kidd for Arenas. He is young and very talented (athletically especially).

All things considered I would prefer the Kidd, Carter, Jefferson tandem not to be broken. All this tandem needs is a strong, rebounding/defensive, PF and center, complete with capable player off of the bench.
I'm getting the feeling that Kristic will not be on the team next year...There might be a number of teams willing to give some skilled veterans for a young, and very promising center. What I mean is that the Nets might recieve attractive trade offers regarding Kristic. I may however be over-exaggerating Kristic's potential and present abilities.

I'm not having your feeling. Most teams know that when they find a skilled big man, especially one who can play center, and is young, he's a keeper. Especially one with Krstic's current skill and future potential. Thorn and Stefanski likely also have long term plans, plans that don't include Kidd, but very much likely include Krstic.

    ======

Here's one writer's take on the PF candidates:

    Link

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">OPTION ONE: Shareef Abdur-Rahim-PF-Portland Trailblazers
Certainly adding a 20 point/10 rebound guy to the mix wouldn?t hurt, would it? Rahim gives the Nets a versatile front court player who can play facing the basket or on the blocks. His addition will free up space for Carter and he should get a ton of open looks at mid-range jumpers with all the attention being paid to the big three on the perimeter. The addition of Rahim makes the Nets an extremely dangerous team that could put up a ton of points and should be able to score on anyone. Certainly, Rahim doesn?t solve the problem of guarding Shaquille O?Neal or that big Pistons front line, but it may make the Nets the third best team in the East next season.

    OPTION TWO: Donyell Marshall-PF-Toronto Raptors
They already fleeced Toronto once, why not go in for the kill? In all seriousness, this is the guy the Nets need to get. Plug Marshall into the four spot for New Jersey and they are indeed competing for a championship. With all the attention on Carter and Kidd, this is a guy who can get a lot of open looks from downtown and hit them consistently. Marshall will pull big guys away from the basket to allow the big three to get in the lane and create space for Nenad to operate on the blocks. With two bigs who can consistently hit from the outside, opposing defenses will be backpedaling trying to figure out how to guard this team. Add the fact that Marshall is a tough rebounder with long arms and a pretty solid defender and you have the missing piece that could put the Nets over the top.

    OPTION THREE: STROMILE SWIFT-PF/C-Memphis Grizzlies
An athletic big who can block shots, bring down the house with a momentum-changing slam, and run the floor with Kidd and RJ to form a formidable fast break. Sound familiar? Certainly the K-Mart comparisons aren?t too far off, but I?m not sold on this guy becoming the player Kenyon did while playing along side Kidd. The word on Swift is his basketball IQ does not match his unbelievable athleticism and potential. He appears to be just a great athlete who happens to play basketball. Nevertheless, we have seen Kidd turn average players into all-stars, and I wouldn?t be surprised if Swift came to the Nets and averaged eighteen a game on fast break dunks and put backs. With all the potential this guy has, it appears that this may indeed just be hearsay as he will be entirely too pricey for the cap-deficient Nets unless they can work a sign and trade with Memphis.

    --------

What about a swap that sends VC, Nenad Krstic, and some draft picks to Minnesota for KG and a bad contract (possibly Trenton Hassell)? Jersey becomes instant title contenders with one of the best defensive teams in the league to go with the Kidd-KG combo. Minnesota gets a star back in Carter, a nice young building block in Krstic, and the Clippers unprotected draft pick next year (which could turn to gold) along with another Net first rounder.</div>

    Here's my corresponding analysis:

His argument for getting Donyell Marshall is pretty sound. I watched him in Chicago and Toronto, and he's as consistent as they get (with maybe some slight exception this season). He can easily get 16/10/2(blocks) on 50% and 2-3 3pters on 40%+, especially in an offense with RJ/VC/Kidd. I suppose the reasoning is that we're looking for a shooter and a rebounder so why not get both in one guy? He can mix it in and out, but mostly likes to stay out on the perimeter on offense. On defense, he gets his share of blocks because of his long arms and good timing. His long arms also contribute to his high rebounding numberes, as does his good instinct and box out technique and other non-athletic traits.

I still like the idea of Stromile Swift, but only at the right price, especially since he's unproven in terms of consistency and work ethic. What he doesn't have in skill, he has in pure explosiveness. His offense will come off putbacks and dunks. This is evident when you look at his rebounding stats. Throughout his career, nearly half his rebounds are of the offensive type. He doesn't seem to have high basketball IQ, evident by the small number of rebounds he grabs for his stature and athletic talent. This can possibly be changed through good coaching and teaching. Given the right coaching, motivation, and offense, he definitely can be a powerhouse that energizes the team.

I'm still iffy on Shareef Abdur-Rahim. He seems like a guy who'll need a lot of shots to contribute, something the Nets can't give him. Much like Zach Randolph, he gets his rebounds through good instinct, a knack for the ball, and smart box outs, instead of pure athleticism. This is a good thing, as he doesn't have or need an explosiveness that could fade away as he continues to age. He has a very good midrange game and he'll make all the shots that Jason Collins and Jabari Smith missed. He is also strong and is formidable inside, similar to Juwan Howard of Houston. What he can't do is block shots, as he doesn't even look to do so, which is good in a way that he doesn't foul a lot. He's a guy that can (and has consistently) get 20/10 on 50% but he'll also need the shots to do so.

Donyell Marshall and Shareef Abdur-Rahim are definitely the most skilled of the three. Stromile Swift can be the most impacting if he reaches near Kmart levels. However, athletic big men are always available though the draft: Hakim Warrick for example. I know I've voice my opinion for Stro Show in the past, but I feel a little scared taking a risk. At the same time, I don't think we can get Shareef, just because he is the most skilled of the three, especially offensively. He can garner a lot of money with his offensive skill set. The thing is that, we don't need his offense as much as other teams might, and we probably won't have the money to get him because of that. Donyell might look like the right one, but he's always been underpaid (relative to other players) throughout his career and he's bound for a big contract sooner than later.

Kidd for Arenas would be horrible for us....He is just another guy on the periemter that would be chucking up shots with Vince Carter. And that would be horrible for any sense of team concept. Arenas in my opinion doesnt have the right decision making skills needed from a point guard in order to take a team to a chanpionship type level. His decision making was pretty bad in the 1st round of the playoffs if you ask me...he scored a bunch of points, but his shot selection was not good. And if the Bulls were healthy, it would have really cost Washington.

Though i think Shareefwould be a great offensive player, we do not really need a player like him, he's aging and less athletic, and he cant block shots (we need a shotblocker badly cuz Nenad aint too great at it). I like Donyell cuz hes a decent shot blocker, a good rebounder and can shoot the three lights out (13 in a game), but he lacks athleticism and would not run the floor well. I like Stro as well, b/c he is athletic, runs the floor, and is a shot blocker. BUt Jason Kidd is very demanding and if Stro has a bad bball IQ, i dont know if thatd work too well. Our best bet is to go for Donyell and pick up a 2 good, athletic F/C's in the draft (Channing Frye with our first, and some whoever's left with our second)

    Good idea.

Ok, here's my Nets offseason plan. Keep in mind that i'm not too keen on the CBA and the Net's current situation concerning MLE's and Trade Execptions, so feel free to tell me if anything I propose is impossible.

First off we get Donyell Marshall. He'll feel the void of an outside shooter and a strong rebounding presence and shotblocker. We can basically solve two problems with one guy.

Then we can draft someone like Ike Diogu (who i'm really pushing for). Diogu is incredibly fundamentally sound. He's a monster rebounder, has good range (he'll make the shots Collins misses) with a sweet jumper, an arsenal of superior post moves, high bball IQ and court sense, good FT shooter, good shot blocker, hard worker, team player. He can play backup to Krstic and Marshall, and eventually become a starter in Donyell's place in the future, all the while improving his game.

Pick up the option on Clifford Robinson. It's always good to have a veteran big man on a team to tutor the young guys. A smart defender, strong work ethic, and a three point threat is too good to pass up, at least for a year. He'll play third man on center or powerforward behind Krstic, Collins, and Diogu.

Shore up our backcourt defense and add a 3pt threat to the backcourt by sigining either of the following free agent guards:
Greg Buckner - A good perimeter defender who can guard multiple positions and has an ever improving 3pt shot.
Richie Frahm (restricted) - A great shooter from behind the arc. He has proven his range and accuracy throughout his basketball career. Also supposedly a good and gritty defender.
Wesley Person - although his defense can be suspect, he would be the most accomplished shooter and 3pt threat. He is currently shooting 48.5% from behind the arc on the Nuggets, and is 41.8% on his career. Carter, Kidd, and RJ will be able to drive and dish with confidence.

Draft a playmaking and/or defending PG with the second round pick who will be the first or second backup behind Kidd and Jacque. Either one will suffice and they should all be available:
Aaron Miles (Kansas) - Although small (6-1), Miles is a good point guard, especially one off the bench. A smart passer with good court vision, laterally quick tough defender and on ball hound, hard worker and professional, efficient shooting.
Marcelo "Marcelinho" Huertas - good size (6-3), strong, great scorer, and rapidly improving play maker. Defense is suspect.

Don't resign anyone else. Although I really like Travis Best, and what he has done, Jacque Vaughn will be healthy again and I'd be looking for more of a playmaker as a backup. Brian Scalabrine has shown that he can grab double digit rebounds at times and provide energy, but he can't guard either the SF or PF, and gets exposed by these positions as well.

    ==========================================

With this plan, next season's lineup will look like this:

PG: Jason Kidd | Jacque Vaughn | Aaron Miles
SG: Vince Carter | Richie Frahm | Jacque Vaughn
SF: Richard Jefferson | Zoran Planinic | Richie Frahm
PF: Donyell Marshall | Ike Diogu | Clifford Robinson
C: Nenad Krstic | Jason Collins | Clifford Robinson

The only thing i don't agree with you on this is zoran planinic aka the tornado storm because this guy is wild. I say dump him and keep Buford. Because this guy showed that he can play when the time comes and when people are injured. Dump Ron Mercer becuase he will never be able to really compete at the NBA level just doesn't have the heart any more (plus i never really liked him so call me bias). But yes lets pick up Donyell Marshall i loved this guy when he played at UConn and when he came into the nba his game is still there. And then draft players for the future and start building for the future around RJ since he is really truly the future of this team.

My mistake for putting ZP twice. I still believe in Zoran. He can get into the lane anytime he wants and causes mismatches galore with his size, which he can use at the 1 and 2 guard position. He's also a very viable backup at the SF position, because of his ability to get in the lane, and his ever improving shot. I also left him in the lineup because he has a contract for two more seasons, and I havn't assumed any trades would go down. Plus Lawrence Frank and the front office still seem to have some confidence in him becoming a good, dependable player down the road.

PF: Donyell Marshall | Ike Diogu | Clifford Robinson
    C: Nenad Krstic | Jason Collins | Clifford Robinson</div>

This is pretty good except I want Best back, by all means. Honeslty Best coming back would be better than keeping Zoran Planinic and drafting Aaron Miles. We can keep T.Best, trade Zoran for a future 2nd rounder, either in this year or next years draft doesnt really matter. And then we draft a pg next season, I dont see the rush to add a young pg this year with any of our picks, unless we plan on trading Kidd.

Why waste a pick this year on a point that would hardly get playing time? Every year, the draft is loaded with backcourt players, so unless there is an exceptional cant miss pg on the board, I say we use all our picks addressing our frontcourt needs. Honestly you dont want to go into next season relying on Clifford Robinson, who played solid dont get me wrong, to give you a boat load of minutes like he gave ys during the 2nd half of this years.

I say draft as many talented young frontcourt guys as possible, so you can have them pushing each other for minutes in the rotation, so we can finally have some quality depth. Another thing I dont like about your lineup is Donyell Marshall & Nenad playing & starting in the frontcourt together, it seems a bit soft, need someone willing to play more under the basket on both ends. I mean Donyell will be standing out at the 3 point line, while Nenad is taking 15 foot mid range shots all game. So in a sense with such a move we have not addressed our need for a more inside physical pressence.
