Okafor sprains ankle in team usa practice

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Emeka Okafor sprained his right ankle during practice Tuesday with Team USA practice, but the injury did not appear serious.

There was no immediate word from Team USA on Okafor's status. Tim Duncan skipped the practice because of a stomach bug.

The expansion Charlotte Bobcats, who signed Okafor to a multiyear contract Tuesday, weren't thrilled with the center's decision to play in the Athens Olympics and wanted Okafor to work out with the team and play in summer leagues. Team USA commitments prevent Okafor from doing that.

"We are somewhat concerned because all that basketball causes a lot of wear and tear and prevents you from being fresh at the start of the season," Bobcats coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said in late June. "We have many concerns that we want to address."

Under the NBA's rookie salary scale, Okafor will make at least $10.05 million over three years with a fourth-year option.

The Bobcats traded the fourth and 33rd picks to the Clippers for the second pick, then watched the Magic tab high school forward Dwight Howard with the top pick. That left them with the 6-foot-10 Okafor, who averaged 17.6 points and 11.5 rebounds as a junior while leading Connecticut to the NCAA championship.</div>

Well they are saying that it is not a serious injury. Hopefully it isnt just thought I would inform bobcat fans about this because with leg injuries you never know example malones knee injury last season that kept him out nerly half the year.

It was a minor ankle sprain, big deal. He'll be fine, and as long as nothing happens to his back, which has been said to be in perfect condition, then its OK. So, it sounds as if he'll be healthy as well, so big whoop.

I hope he gets healthy quick and if he doesnt it means bad thing's for the Charlotte Bobcats.. This would be a backwards step for Okafor and I hope he doesnt take it, the media is only saying it's a small ANKLE sprain nothing big. And BTW the title of this thread says sprained KNEE when it would say ANKLE.

    Ouch.

Yeah, tough break for Okafor, but at least it wasn't serious - Thats all that matters. Hopefully this busy offseason of his won't create problems for him during the regular season. He's only a rookie, meaning he shouldn't be getting worn down, however he's always been stuck with the injury plague.

As long as it wasn't his back everything should be ok.

But Howard will have gotten 3 times as much minutes in a Summer League than Okafor will get in the Olympics. He's the 7th guy off the bench.

Yes, but Okafor gets one of the best coaches in the game today teaching him. And who does Howard get? Johnny Davis? [IMG]

For what? 1 month? He'll probably give him more advice than teaching. That's Bickerstaff's job. Brown is there to win a Gold Medal, not tutor a rookie who won't even be playing for him in the reg. season. [IMG]

BTW-That J.Davis coached A.I his rookie year. He turned out to be a pretty good player. [IMG]

Maybe so, but you can't deny Okafor will be better when he comes back from Athens.

Wow, if he coached AI to be a good player, why couldn't he coach anyone on the Magic besides Tmac to be decent role players?

He'll play more minutes than Okafor will play in the Olympics. You can bet on that.

Umm, maybe because they stinked and gave up in December(including T-Mac). There's a reason they traded almost everyone on their roster. Give the guy a full season & a training camp so he can go over his game/season plan. I'm not asking for much. [IMG] [IMG]

He had 71 games and they still stunk. Thats almost a whole entire season and he couldn't do anything but sit and watch. There's no doubt Orlando will be back in contention for the playoffs this year (maybe, having to face Shaq 4 times a year doesn't help) but the point is Davis couldn't do crap last season.

Okafor will be playing against the world's best players and will be coach by one of the best coach in the history of bball. He will learn much more this way than playing with a bunch of players who are not even consider nba material. This should make his transition to the nba much more smoother than D12. Also if you add the fact that Emeka is a much more mature, determined, and experienced person you will see why Emeka will be a better than D12.

    X-rays negative on Okafor's ankle

What gave you the impression that the Olympics revolve around Okafor? You think those All-Stars and HOF coach are there to teach Okafor how to play? [IMG]

They're there to win a gold medal.

Why did Bickerstaff and the Bobcats INSIST he not play in the Olympics then? Maybe it's because he's hardly learn anything and it'll wear him down once the season begins.

Note: Last year Duncan played in the Olympic trials while KG didn't. Guess who got injured during the season and wore down in June? And guess who won the MVP and had his best season of his career?

You're too easy Enitials. Stick with just being a "fan". [IMG]

BTW-You can't learn much from sitting on the bench. He's not gonna play much. You can go ask Nick Collison how much he "learned" and "played" in the last Olympic trials. [IMG] [IMG]

First off I have to say this sucks badly for him. But it don't look to serious so I don't think it will last that long. Probaly wont play for the Olympics though.

Lol, he'll have 2 months to get ready before the season starts.

This is one of stupidest posts ever. You think Duncan got injured because of the trials? He still had a stellar season and lead the Spurs to the playoffs. And you think KG had an MVP type season because he didn't play in the trials? Right, it had nothing to do with working hard and being determined. [IMG]

Well it certainly isn't good news for the Bobcats.

But at least it's not his back. -
Those back spasms will never go away, it will be an uphill battle for Okafor throughout his career. Doc rivers has said before that it kills to play with back spasms and that it hurts for the rest of your life. I think Okafor will have a great career, but it won't be a long career.
