Am I missing the thread? Why hasn't this been mentioned yet?! The most powerful twister in recorded history of this planet.
It was the most powerful? I thought it was an EF-4? Of course, it was huge and stayed on the ground for a while.
Oklahoma tornado's strength upgraded to rare EF5 http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57585572/oklahoma-tornados-strength-upgraded-to-rare-ef5/ But the article doesn't say anything about it being the most powerful ever.
I can't find the link now but the weather guy in OKC talked about this with an expert this morning. It's an F5 now and "the most powerful tornado in recorded history."
Thanks everyone for the update. There was a Blazer poster who used to post on O-Live named "Wxman". He used to chase tornadoes (the "Wx" is for "weather"). I wanted to get his opinion on this storm, and found out he passed 16 months ago. He educated me tremendously about tornadoes and was a great Blazer fan. RIP, Wxman.
This article lists various tornado records. The most extreme tornado in recorded history was the Tri-State Tornado, which roared through parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana on March 18, 1925. It was likely an F5, though tornadoes were not ranked on any scale in that era. It holds records for longest path length at 352 km (219 mi), longest duration at about 3.5 hours, and fastest forward speed for a significant tornado at 117 km/h (73 mph) anywhere on Earth. In addition, it is the deadliest single tornado in United States history (695 dead).[1] It was also the second costliest tornado in history at the time, but has been surpassed by several others non-normalized. When costs are normalized for wealth and inflation, it still ranks third today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado_records
"Several meteorologists contacted by The Associated Press used real time measurements to calculate the energy released during the storm's life span of almost an hour. Their estimates ranged from 8 times to more than 600 times the power of the Hiroshima bomb with more experts at the high end"
Can't wait for the Westboro Baptist church of mental midgets to explain why god destroyed this town AGAIN.
Hiroshima death toll - 118,000 OKC tornado death toll - 24 Oklahoma tornado was a monster, but it wasn't a record-breaker http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2013/0521/Oklahoma-tornado-was-a-monster-but-it-wasn-t-a-record-breaker
This was clearly a case of Obama ordering a tornado so the news would stop covering the "scandals" Thanks Obama

I'll say it because no one else will. Because they stole the Supersonics. Or maybe because they have Durant and we used to have Oden's dong. I just have a general apathy for all things OKC because of these factors. Perhaps other blazers fans do to, thus the lack of mention or discussion. or maybe there's nothing to discuss. Its a natural disaster, it sucks that it happens and what can we post about?
We're in the process of renovating our house. As part of it, we've excavated an additional 800+ feet of our basement for storage, a mechanical room and adding onto our family room. Tonight, my wife came to me and told me as part of our renovation, she wants to have our structural engineer design a tornado shelter in a corner of our new storage room. Her decision is a direct result of what happened in Moore.
Denver problems, actually, but pretty much the same thing. She's basically telling me to drop a good amount of money for a six sigma event occurring.
