Idk why I made this topic. But I was just woundering if any of you guys knew anything about this(Without looking on Google/Wikipedia or any other source, then posting) Here in Oklahoma, its still a big deal. To you guys from a differnt state, or maybe even country...I was just woundering if you guys were ever educated on this, thoughts, feedback, or anything. Just thought it deserved a topic. Its still a pretty touchy subject
Well - it's not talked about much here in Michigan - but I know that Timothy McVeigh (sp?) had relatives in Michigan who helped him with the bomb making materials. Something like that. But unfortunately, I'm not very educated on that whole thing. I remember it - but I think I was kinda young to learn morea bout it.
I don't really really hear much about it, it's rarely ever talking about here in NJ, I know that Timmothy Mcveigh(SP) did it, but I dont really know to much detail.
I remember when it happened it was a big deal, but yeah its dropped off since. I've never been in a history class where much detail has ever been paid attention to the act, other than the Mcvaigh(sp?) did it, and that he was mad at the government.
We don't really talk about it much here in Atlanta. Only time I've been educated about the bombings was in journalism class..I think it's pretty interesting stuff
I have a book on it...the sad thing is...Tim McVeigh was actually a nice kid, nice person growing up...people that knew him when he was young never had anything bad to say about him...not to mention was VERY smart. His mom leaving the family along with his sisters...and his dreams being crushed in the military led to his downfall and in my mind severe depression and radicalism into guns and anti-government politics. What he did was inexcusable and wrong...but people have a wrong impression on what he was like. McVeigh had his hopes crushed in the militaty when he failed the green berats test, he left the military and was extremely depressed and didn't have any direction in his life...he turned to guns/anti-government politics and robbed a gun collector who befriended him...which helped fund the attacks in Oklahoma The bomb was triggered in front of the building and exploded when McVeigh had already walked a block away, he then got into his parked car which he had planned...and was pulled over an hour out of town for some minor violation with his car...McVeigh had a handgun on him which he admitted to having...was booked into jail like a normal guy...and a few days later was found out while in jail luckily.
I remember it, I was pretty young when it happened, but I still remember seeing it on the news and stuff.
I don't know a whole lot about it. I basically knew some of what BCB said. He was supposedly a nice, smart, good guy from what most people thought about him. Apparently he had something wrong with him. Other than that, it's pretty hard to remember much. I was still pretty young when it happened... I must have been 8 or 9. I just remember being told that it had been bombed and I told my friend and his sister that it happened. They were like wtf... that's all I remember. It has been very overshadowed by 9/11. Back before then, OKC and that olympics bombing in Atlanta were considered scary (and they were), but now people forget that.
One legit quote from Timothy McVeigh:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>If Saddam is such a demon, and people are calling for war crimes charges and trials against him and his nation, why do we not hear the same cry for blood directed at those responsible for even greater amounts of ?mass destruction?</div>I guess he just had really strong anti-Government feelings, mostly stemming from his service during the Gulf War, and his thoughts on the Waco incident.
Really strong is an understatement, he was obsessed with the anti-government movement. He really felt that the US Government was trying to take away all out rights to defend ourselves and that the U.N. was trying to take over the world. Tim McVeigh might have been a little crazy later in life, but he was a very interesting person.
Yeah obviously was he did was horrific and awful, but I can understand some of his views, even if they are extreme.
McVeigh even got a Silver Star(Which means you did something exteremly brave) in the Gulf War.It all changed after the war. Started experimenting with meth, which those experiments led to the addidction, which led to messing with his mind. Then right around the corner is when he turned anti-government
I wouldn't say it started after the war, from what I've read he'd held those feelings since before the war began, and then going to war only exacerbated them, after war is definitely when he reached his worst point though.
Obviously there's no excuse for what he did, but I can't tell you I'd feel great about the government either if I was sent to a pointless war like the one we're fighting now, watching my friends die and killing civilians for no reason, it's pretty tough sh*t to deal with.
