And on that same day 6 years earlier Babe Ruth announces his retirement at age 40.

Read an article on the movies "Pride of the Yankees" According to that article Gary Cooper was neither interested in baseball nor the role of Lou Gherig. Allegedly he was forced into it because he owed someone a favor and the movie was done. I guess that's why they call it acting. Not a bad flick I guess they did Gherig some justice.

Yes, I dug "The Pride of the Yankees, as you noted with Ruth and Bill Dickey in the flick. Cooper did IMO an outstanding job, playing the mild shy mannered Giant that was Lou......

the day that will live in Infamy, prior to Pearl Harbor of course, another day that will forever live in Infamy.........!

Speaking of the Babe it would be cool if a film would be done on him with some realistic acting and the like. Saw that old flick with William Bendix playing Ruth. Made the Babe look like a complete idiot, ditto the one with John Goodman in the role. As many years as I've been a Yankee Fan Mantle is number one but I saw him play. Ruth & Gherig are like the Olympus Figures, they set the tone for this franchise and no history book rewrites can ever change that.

Cooper himself would die from Cancer just a week after his 60th birthday.

Get Kevin Costner and Billy Crystal to produce a movie about murderers row.

Is there any doubt that the 1927 Yankees were the best ever?
