Mook's a good writer, and this is a well-written article. I think he oversimplifies Jason Kidd's season though by just saying that he's tapered off since the start of the year, especially given that his strongest month of play was probably this past January. You have to look at all of the circumstances involving a player's performance and not just judge their play based on their statistics, and having watched a lot of Nets games, I'd say that Kidd is probably the one constant on this team. His stats may be more impressive at certain times of the season than others, but that's indicitive of the team around him, because Kidd's the type of player whose bread-and-butter stat, assists, relies on his teammates to be knocking down their shots. Just look at the team's overall shooting percentage and its correlation with Kidd's statistics. In January they shot a respectable 46% from the field, and Kidd has season-high averages in all of the three main statistical categories. Coincidence? Not at all.

I do like how he's careful to point out that a lot of the Nets' problems this season have resulted from injury though. The national media seems to ignore that aspect of it.
