OK, everyone knows who this post is about but I thought this was worthy of a thread if for no other reason then to acknowledge just how special Roys' performance was last night and this season. Roy, as everyone knows has been on a tear lately (well in many respects putting us on his back and carrying us). That is where it all begins though. In the course of a season, players production will drop, teams will go into a slump but certain players, players that have the ability to put a team on their back and carry them will prevent the slump from lasting too long (the refuse to let their team lose mentality). Roy is doing that. He is a bonafide allstar, easily in line to go to 12 plus allstar games throughout his career but he is becoming much, much more then that. You can see it when he drives to the hoop yells and gets the fouls called. Roy use to never yell, never get the call, but now he does (even when he is not fouled). He is slowly turning into the type of player Wade is in that he gets to the foul line 10 plus times in a game. 19 last night, 15 the other night ect.... This is huge for our team, our city, the NBA. When Oden rounds into form, Aldridge continues to develop we will be a lethal team with Roy captain of the ship. We have something very special developing and it is amazing watching the maturation of our future superstar on a nightly basis.
Completely agree. Every year we expect to see the same player we saw the previous year and every year he turns it up a notch. He's been our savior since the day we drafted him and his intensity and clutch performances have really elevated his game into superstar territory. I know he won't get the attention from the casual fan until he's in the playoffs, but anyone that knows basketball knows that Brandon Roy is someone to be respected. Contrary to what some may have thought earlier (including myself), Roy might very well end up being the anchor and face of the franchise even as Aldridge and Oden progress.
My concern is that when the team leans on Roy like this, they stop being part of the game and become spectators. There's a reason we're 1-3 when he scores 30 points or more.
No, the problem is that we are not riding him enough. We lose when he tries to involve everyone else and only goes for 30. He should score 50 every game!
The beauty of that Phoenix game was that not only did Roy explode, but Blake played his best game as a Blazer and Travis was terrific. It takes more than one.
