After getting bested by Georges St. Pierre last year, Matt Hughes said he had two or three more fights left in him. I don't think anybody expected him to be fighting Thiago Alves, but a fight with Matt Serra and a rematch with BJ Penn both seemed likely at the time. After suffering a bad defeat at the knees of Alves yesterday, Hughes said he at least wanted to fight Serra before he called an end to his career. Is this fight, supposedly scheduled for early autumn (September?) the last of Country Breakfast's career, or do you think he'll keep going? Should he?
He got blasted yesterday, I think he should just hang it up. However, he really wants Serra. Take a fight with Serra, and then walk away from the game. Didn't he want to walk away from the sport before he could become somebody's highlight reel? I think it's about that time to walk away.
I couldn't get over how big Alves looked next to Hughes. Normally Hughes is the bigger guy. Gotta wonder if Alves can drop to 170 and bulk up that big. Yeah he was only 4 pounds away, but when you're that dehydrated, dropping another 4 lbs is huge and can affect your ability to bounce back. IMO Hughes looked very one dimensional in this fight. I can't believe he didn't test the stand up a bit more. He ate both knees shooting in and he was being predictable with his shots IMO.

Those 4 pounds Alves didn't have to shed made a difference in the race to rehydrate IMO. remember Alves got beat by Fitch too, I don't think he has a prayer vs GSP.
I say keep fighting. Hughes was always one of my favorite fighters, also loved how he coached in TUF.
