I find this to be an interesting concept. It would be interesting if the National Basketball Association had one day contracts players could sign ceremonial ones like the National Football League has for people who grew up watching players like Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Michael Jordan, etc. Seeing them retire with any team besides the ones they spent the better part of their careers with. I know it is to late for Jordan and Malone, but players like Payton and others it would be nice to see them return to the team there careers started with or the organization they helped influence for the end of there career. I was pondering this, because of today?s retirement of Tim Brown as a Raider. I feel like if a player has earned it a one day contract would be really nice as something to show respect towards the player without them having to play the final career of there season with the team they started with. Players like Michael Finley now who is probably leaving the Mavs due to waivers and Brian Grant when there careers come to a close should be able to return to the Mavericks or in Grants case the Heat or Blazers to end there career. I know it is not a big deal or does not seem like a big deal to many of us, but when these guys announce there retirement it sometimes pains me to see the logo of the Washington Wizards (in Jordan's case) and the Los Angeles Lakers (in Malone?s case). I do not know how others feel on this matter, but was wondering what you guys would think of it. I think this should be an option in all of the majors sports really in my opinion there is no money involved or anything it?s just nice to see there careers end with the logo and franchise they started with.
The Knicks salary cap can't even handle it for one day. Antonio McDyess will just have to settle for Denver. Then again he might be willing to reimburse James Dolan the luxury taxe charges for that day, what do you think Antonio?
Good thinking BKS, I don't know why, but the NBA seems adamant in adopting alot of the rules that other major leagues have.. i.e: instant replay, coach challenge option, one day contract, etc.
I think the NBA is just too picky with the rules. I think they just want like a perfect league with rules that have no flaws. But I do like your idea BKS. That rule should be allowed, and would also make a things a little easier for players.
if its alowed then, before the finals, miami will sign karl malone, reggie miller, john stockton, and charels barkley back to win a championship. seriously, if we allow that rule, this may happen. i mean, its not braking any rules.
Howabout if they make that rule so that it wont allow players to play games, making it strictly for retiring players. That would make it foolproof.
