Rick Porcello will not necessarily return to Triple-A Toledo after starting the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against the Indians, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Friday.

In other words, Porcello has a golden opportunity to prove he belongs in the Detroit rotation.

Coming off a 14-win rookie campaign last year, the 21-year-old right-hander went 4-7 with a 6.14 ERA in 13 starts this season before being optioned to Toledo on June 20.

What interests Leyland most about Porcello's Saturday start?

"Results," Leyland said. "He's got to be on top of his game. We want to see improvement from his secondary stuff, a better changeup and breaking ball."
