A couple awful turnovers and that's all it takes. Aside from the third period I feel like the Rangers held their own. There were a couple opportunities when the Rangers had glorious chances and instead of taking the shot, opted to pass or pull up (D Moore's pass to St Louis when Quick was already down and not on the post and then the 3 on 1 when Nash decides to stop driving the net then loses control of the puck). What worries me more though is that the Rangers didn't have ANYTHING working aside from the low cycle. The two goals they scored were on breakaways and you can be sure the Kings will adjust their defense to minimize those chances the Rangers get. At least the Rangers stood up physically against them. Some great hits and tenacious forechecking. The series is far from over, but the Rangers wasted a great opportunity tonight.
With the third period they played they didn't deserve shit tonight. Also keep in mind the Rangers were fortunate on the Hags goals that went off a LA skate.
Right Mess, but we played well and should feel good according to Duguay and Joe M. That is funny...and sad...and scary...LOL.
I saw a team that looked like the first period made them tired. They were a step behind the Kings the rest of the game. It could've been a 5-2 loss.
Question Mess...if the 1st period made us tired after 5 days off for us and 2 days off for them, what does that say looking forward? That's my concern. BUT we'll see if it is a legit concern on Saturday night. I think that game will tell us all we need to know. I 1000000000000% believe we will know all we need to know about this series after Saturday night...ALL.
It's like any other sport. They have to regroup and play a much better game on Saturday. Los Angeles has played 22 games themselves. To me the Rangers just made life too easy for them.
Aside from another no show by the first scoring line Staal played like garbage, he's playing himself out of a future here.
The bottom line is this team had plenty of chances for that third goal and didn't get it done. Scoring two early and hoping to hang on against LA isn't going to work. I expect a much better effort Saturday simply because too many guys played like absolute shit last night.
Burnside is funny. Already done to him. Title of his article: Series already tilted in Kings' favor. Can we at least play two games first before we write it off...LOL.
last night's loss was very unfortunate. After going up 2-0 we needed to hold that lead. The goal to make it 2-1 before the end of the 1st was big. Need to regroup and try to win Gm 2 b/c otherwise we're in a hole that'll be hard to get out of.
He's not wrong as the Kings are up 1-0 and not us. And Gm 1 was supposed to be the best game to "steal" b/c the Kings would be tired and not us. That didn't happen and now with 2 days off before Gm 2 there is no "tired legs" advantage.
I will wait until after game 2 to make any big comments regarding the series. We all believe game 1 was the game to steal, BUT if we win game 2 then that was the game to steal. Let me see us play game 2 and then I'll make my big statement. If we win game 2 we are in good shape IMO. All last night did was pretty much make game 2 a must win.
I also thought Staal had a rough game. I want to see more of Klein than Staal at this point. Maybe Mark is not 100 %, who knows. Hopefully he can step up his game.
I dont know guys, the first two periods last night showed me that this will be a long series. I still stand by my prediction, rangers in 6.
I think the Rangers certainly have the speed to play with the Kings 5 on 5. Last night the Rangers just stopped skating for some reason. As for just holding a early 2-0 lead the Kings have shown time and time again in these playoffs you're not going to get away with that against them. You have to keep playing and bury your chances to add goals.
That's what kings do, they can shut you down just like that. The rangers went into very defensive mode, since they played on the road in 2:2 game. Reminded me of the torts era. CK needs to be better in this kind of games. He has to keep driving to the net and using his speed like hags.
When i think of the Kings i don't think defense. I think offense that can come at you at any time if you let your guard down. The Rangers should get plenty of scoring chances in this series, it's a matter of keeping your guard up (ie defensively sound) b/c the Kings are very deep and just don't go away.
The best defense is a timely offense. That's what kings have. Having said that, I agree the rangers will have plenty of scoring chances.
Nobody wanted to drive to the net last night which was frustrating. That's Kreider's game and he needs to play stronger. Nash on the other hand is just useless and soft. Pulls up instead of going strong and ends up not even getting shots off when any other goal scorer would.
