http://beta.latimes.com/entertainme...en-globes-oprah-president-20180107-story.html I'd campaign for her.
GOP put celebrities like Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump in the White House, why not respond with Oprah Winfrey?
Ronald Reagan at least was Governor of CA. If Oprah was a successful governor of IL, maybe you'd have something. Trump is President largely because the Democratic Party committed seppuku running Hillary. Joe Biden (hell, maybe even Bernie with how dumb many socialist millenials there are out there) would probably be President right now. But if you think running Oprah on name recognition is the trick...by all means.
I would love to hear her positions before making up my mind, but from what I do know I would certainly be be intrigued. I would like someone a few years younger but she's younger than either Trump or Hillary. She is extremely sharp and has demonstrated compassion and a willingness to take on lots of responsibility. I don't know of any negative brushes with fame that would preclude her from office. I know she has never been married which would be a first. And there have been rumors for decades that she is a lesbian, but that doesn't matter to me at all. Would be interesting.
That's true. I guess my point is that they put Reagan into politics by first running him as governor and then President. There was even a time there where they pushing for law change so that that Arnold could get to the White House. Oprah inspired people tonight. We need a President who inspires again.
Bernie would be a horrible VP candidate. First, VT is going to be a Blue State (has been every election since 88), so it's not like he's bringing in a swing state. Second, as a VP his policies aren't going to be the ones enacted or the agenda that the Congress will follow (even if the D's manage somehow to get control of one or both of the Houses). Third, he'd be 79 when he's campaigning. Maybe he's a horse and can pull it off, but I don't see him picking up the slack Oprah has in campaigning. Fourth, he's not a strict (D) in terms of policy, so it's not like you could have Oprah run as the name recognized and Bernie as the "party base recruiter" like Pence did for Trump.
This is not meant to be a bash, because I literally have no idea what she said tonight. But I highly doubt that anyone in the echo chamber she spoke at tonight (or the vast majority of those watching on TV) were going to vote (R) anyway, and then decided "Fuck it! Now I'm inspired! Vote Oprah 2020!"
But she inspired the D base more than Hillary ever did. The Dem voters didn't come out strong for Hillary like they did for Obama. Oprah would get people who never vote to vote.
Why would I vote for Oprah? I know, it doesn't matter since I live in Oregon. But let's say I live in North Carolina. Why would I vote for Oprah? How would she make my country better?
