On Wednesday, the Nets exercised Vaughn's contract option for the 2005-06 season. The 6-1 Vaughn averaged 5.3 points and 1.9 assists in 71 games, including 34 starts, last season - his first with the Nets. He missed the final eight regular-season games and the postseason after suffering a broken right foot on April 2. </div> Source Good move for the Nets, they really missed him last year in the playoffs.
I think it is solid a move but honestly I would have rather had Travis Best comeback instead, only because Jacque Vaughn played well in games where he played alongside Kidd in the backcourt. But didnt really play well in games where he replaced Kidd(when Kidd was out with the knee situation) or games where he played backup to Kidd. But next year with the abudance of wing players we have the Nets wont be using the small, two point guard backcourt at all. Travis Best can play well without Kidd being in the backcourt with him...before Kidd returned out of Travis Best, Zoran Planinic, & Vaughn, Best was the most consistent. I like the scoring guard ablities of Best backing up Kidd, it gives the team a different look when Kidd is on the bench. Nothing against Vaughn, I think it is a solid decsion. But I just think Best is the better of the two when Jason Kidd isnt on the floor.
Jacque played some great defense for us. I remember he stuck on Rip Hamilton like glue that one game and held him to like 3-10 shooting. That'll come in handy, but I agree Best was very good for us.
