Oregon freshman linebacker Tyson Coleman was arrested Saturday by Eugene police and cited for being a minor possession and interfering with police officers.

Coleman, 18, was stopped by police officers after he was spotted walking near campus with an unopened alcoholic beverage. Officers had to chase him to make the arrest.

The former Lake Oswego High School standout is a member of the 2011 recruiting class. He enrolled early to participate in spring practice.

Coleman was an all-state selection at Lake Oswego. He was rated the country's 17th best outside kinebacker prospect by ESPN and No. 20 by CBS College Sports' Tom Lemming and Rivals.com.

As a running back, Coleman led the Lakers with 1,580 yards rushing, averaged 7.4 yards per carry and scored 24 touchdowns.

He made 78 tackles on defense and had three interceptions.

Kids drink in college? Weird......In all seriousness if he wasn't even trying to hide it, Coleman gets points for stupidity

Who gives a shit. Now they're just looking for stuff to report. This has shades of the Jail Blazers witch hunt that the Oregonian pushed in the early 2000s. A kid in college drinking booze? O...M...G stop the presses! You could find about 50 or 60 thousand of them on game days. Hell, everyone is walking around with open containers on game day. They could literally stop just about anyone on the street and hand out a citation. The fact that the kid ran also does not surprise me, because that's what kids do.... they run. Ever been to a party broken up by the cops? Half the people make a break for it.

Dumb decision by Coleman, but I'm sure he'll learn from it. I wasn't 21 until my senior year of college, and I could have been busted for MIP and even having a fake ID on many occasions.
