Orlando City (2-1-0, 6 points) started their first winning streak of the season with a 1-0 victory over the hosts Charlotte Eagles (0-2-0, 0 points). Rob Valentino scored the lone goal for the Lions. For the second week in a row, the Lions got an early scare after Salleiu Bundu found space for a shot, but could not find the back of the net. The Lions quickly recovered and took control of the game. Several chances came close but as the match neared the half-hour mark, the score was still knotted at 0-0. Last week's hero, Max Griffin, stepped up again and provided the Lions with the opportunity they needed to break the game open. Griffin's 29th minute shot looked destined for the goal, but Eagles keeper Eric Reed was just able to keep the shot of his former college teammate out, giving the Lions a corner kick. The ensuing corner was knocked around until Rob Valentino was able to settle and fire home his first ever professional goal. Orlando City entered the break with a 1-0 lead. The second half saw Orlando City focus on defense, something Head Coach Adrian Heath had marked as the key to victory in Charlotte. The Eagles took four shots in the second half, but just one, a long-range effort from Chris Salvaggione, tested City keeper Miguel Gallardo. The 1-0 win gives Orlando their first winning streak and their first road win of the season. Gallardo earned his second straight shutout of the season. Valentino was named the Man of the Match for his game-winning goal. The Lions return to Orlando this Friday to face Puerto Rico United. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
