"Roy is screwed" if there are large areas of bone-on-bone, if small areas, micro-fracture may be an option, but on both knees. He's mentioned retirement twice now. I thought I'd feel better about Roy after listening to an expert, but this does not sound good at all. "Career-ending"... Well-known knee specialist was just on 1080. I'm deflated. If micro-fracture isn't going to help, it's all over, isn't it?
It is really amazing how far technology has gone, where orthopedic surgeons can make diagnosis over the radio-wave. Doctors without eyes, here we come. Roy will either recover, not or somewhat - independently off this amazing analysis.
I'm still in denial. Until I hear something definitive, I'm not thinking anything about Roy's knee(s).
It's pretty cut-and-dry, at least in terms of 'bone-on-bone'. Rask has been a knee specialist for 38 years. If there are small areas, then micro-fracture (on both knees) is an option. If large areas, then micro-fracture (on both knees) won't help. Unless you know better than Bart Rask, of course. My wall of denial surrounding Roy just collapsed, and the reality of Roy's options are standing in front of me.
I was right with you 10 minutes ago. Now, best-case would seem to be micro-fracture on both knees, given what we all know about Roy's knees. The only hope is that media reports are incorrect, and Roy still has plenty of cartilage, and that a 3rd opinion will find out the real cause.
All it took is someone who has no clue about Roy's specific condition speculating about the WORST possible scenario to have you go from everyone else is insane to OMG! Retirement?
Bart Rask is a very respected orthopedic surgeon. I'd say he has a 'clue' about Roy's condition, at least based on what the Blazers are saying. Of course, this may all be a big smokescreen, and Roy is going to come out and dunk 5 times next game.
If one of our players needed one of those artificial hearts, his funeral would already be planned and paid without worry of refund by half the people in here.
Did Bart Rask view Roy's physical information, or is he speaking in general terms to this type of injury?
38 years of practice? Is this the same Bart Rask that graduated OHSU 21 years ago? Very well respected indeed. Credited for an extra 17 years of medical work.
Guys it's no secret that bone on bone doesn't get better. I listened to the interview and nothing he said was outlandish. It actually made a lot of sense.
The latter. But it's not like there are a lot of options in the "bone on bone" world. Especially when the word is that it is both knees.
Sorry, read that wrong. 21 years, and he is obviously a liar when it comes to knees. I'm just relaying the information.
Well damn, if he has no clue what Roy's knee actually looks like, and was going to just say worst case scenario, and have everyone terrified, I wish he would have said generally people have to amputate. Would have been fun to see people flipping out from that.
I thought the same thing. Seemed like either micro-fracture if there are small areas of no cartilage, and that is the best case scenario if what is being reported by the Blazers is correct.
