No, not against his opponent. Against his coach.
"You know, I think [squabbling] helps us both," said Jerry Sloan's most celebrated, and most frequent, debate partner. "It gets weight off my shoulders, and I think it's [the same] for Jerry. It probably helps me play a little better when he gets on me."
Like a nightclub bouncer, Ostertag seems to relish the prospect of a good rumble. The 7-foot-2 center grins as he contemplates the inevitable shouting matches to come.
"Jerry and I sort of have a special relationship," the 10-year veteran said. "We're probably going to butt heads. That's part of being me, part of being Jerry."
It certainly was during Ostertag's first tenure with the Jazz, an often stormy relationship that was interrupted for one season when the Jazz let him walk away as a free agent 14 months ago. Sloan had at least a half-dozen public spats with Ostertag, usually over work habits or on-court effort, and twice suspended him for challenging the coach's authority. </div>
