Another contract to use to figure out how to sign Greg? http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/69398/20101003/noah_bulls_agree_to_$60m_extension/
^^ Didn't see that post coming. I guess 12+M a year is a good deal for you for a guy who doesn't start almost half of his team's games, puts up a career-best PER that is lower than Greg's lowest PER, has a career-best defensive rating that is the same as Oden's average defensive rating, and put up a career-best 10ppg/11rpg last year as the primary big man (unless you're counting Brad Miller as the primary big, in which case I'd ask why Brad Miller's beating out your 12+M guy) Edit: At what price is Oden>Noah at 12+M, Mixum?
The converse is probably true, too. The Bulls wouldn't take Oden for Noah. Brian, Oden has huge upside still, but there's HUGE risk in signing him to a big long term contract if he can't stay on the court for many games.
denny.... be prepared to be lynched by 90% of the posters in this forum! "buuuuutttt... its greg oden.... you cant say that.... he was averaging this and that before he got hurt for the 3rd time" and uuuummmmmmm ummmmmm he abuses noah everytime they play.... your such a troll."
and on noah... i still say hes a PF not a center but hes proved he can hang with the best and anyone wuth brains would take noah for the fact hes usually healthy. i could care less about a guys ceiling if you know he will never play 82 games a season. thats greg oden.
Actually, 90% of the posters in this forum have it right. The Blazers can't win 50+ games a season, even with a roster decimated by injuries, and use the mid-to-late round draft picks they get to draft a likely star. But Oden can become a star and he's far more likely to than anyone they'd draft or more likely to than anyone most teams have or will draft anytime soon.
I highly doubt that. But I somewhat agree with Denny. The Bulls are probably pretty happy (duh) with their guy, who's relatively durable and an above-average big with a motor. And they'd be taking a big risk. But this is really a bird-in-hand-worth-two-in-bush situation for them. Not for us.
Agreed. In general, Noah is the one you want if you want certainty. Oden is the one you want if you want a high risk/reward proposition. Since I've never been content with consistent contention without championships (lot of alliteration, though "ch" in championships was not ideal :/ ), I would rather have Oden in either Chicago's or Portland's case. But, for example, I would never trade Pau Gasol for Oden if I were LA, even though I think Oden has more talent if he stays healthy. LA already being a championship-caliber team should value certainty much more.
I think the Blazers would do it. Putting an energy and talented big man like Noah on the Blazer roster would make them title contenders, IMO. I think a healthy Oden would too . . . but they don't even need that much. And only having Camby and Pendy at center drops them out of any hopes of being a title contender.
My personal favorite about Oden was the guy who posted that Greg was the 2nd best player in the NBA to come into the league the past ten years behind LeBron James because of "advanced" statistics. Some people are so deluded about what Greg has accomplished in his career that it seems almost cult-like.
thats just it and why its so annoying. why should any blazer fan EVER think oden will be a healthy nba player? hes a good player when hes healthy. its simply amazing that even after not being ready till beyond xmas... guys here still think he will be a star. me personally... i just hope he plays this year. but enough is enough with this high ceiling shit. even if (and its a big if) he reaches his ceiling... he will get hurt and miss major time. give me the less ceiling...healthy solid player (noah) any day. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON.
its a shame too cause the blazers are a lot further away then most think. we have no center and no pg of the future.
Why shouldn't a Blazer fan think that Oden will be a healthy NBA player? I'll believe it when I see it, but seeing others believe he'll be healthy certainly doesn't upset or offend me. This is where you start to go a bit sideways. You complain about other people's opinions, therefore devaluing their opinion, yet you come back with an opinion that you seem to think is fact.
That's downright silly. The Blazers are heavy with PF/C types if and when they all are healthy. And you don't need a PG of the future since you run your offense through a point-sg, Roy. The team is perfectly suited to play a small scoring guard who can defend PGs, or even some sort of specialist (defensive or a 3pt gunner) at the point as well.
why should a blazer fan ever think he will be healthy? if i want to live in fantasy land..... then i think oden will be healthy. and did you watch the blazers in the playoffs? they still dont get easy buckets. they get pushed around. thats why you need a solid center.
I don't know. You seem to think you are a Blazers fan - which is much further away from the realm of possibility... Just like every other good player. They are usually rather lousy with broken kneecaps. It's a failure of them all, I agree, but it is what it is. Yeah, but not as amazing as someone telling us for two years in a row that the Blazers will not make the playoffs and not learning from that experience that he is actually a nostradumbass... me personally... I just hope you participate like a real fan this year. But enough is enough with this MIXUM is a Blazers fan shit. Even if (and it's a big if) MIXUM can actually post some reasonable stuff... he will again reach into this toilet and throw junk out. Give me someone who does not yell as loud how great a Blazers fan he is... but actually is a solid, real fan. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. ACCEPT IT AND GO AWAY.
