That second pick is looking mighty good right now. Perhaps you should fake some more migraines in Texas, Ason.

    Dirk got injured (left knee).

I can't be happy seeing other teams player going down with injury.

While I would normally agree with you, I am more happy about what an injury to Dirk could mean to the team's draft positioning this year. Especially wrt the Dallas pick. The fact that karma has come back to bite Joumanna's ex also brings a smile to the face.

Dirk blocked Udoka on the fastbreak and landed very awkwardly. He was down for several minutes, and then taken to the locker room. No other updates.

Best case scenario. Dallas maintains their 8th spot and the Nets get two mid-round selections.

I wonder what protections are on the pick next year. Without Dirk, the Mavs are done. They have no T-Mac on their team. Their point guard isn't able to carry a team anymore and is a piss poor fit for the Mavs.

You don't lose protected picks. You lose the protection on them and get them the next year, unless there are other parameters set up. We would get an unprotected pick next year, if they make the playoffs.

If they miss playoff, we get their pick next year no matter what. I'd prefer next year's pick because its unprotected [IMG].

consider this scenario also: Dirk comes back from injury, Kidd has full preseason with Dallas and they go all the way to the Finals. And we're getting 29-30 pick.

we know that's not going to happen [IMG] [IMG]

Dallas hasn't been the same since the Miami series.

I'd be happy taking their pick if they snuck into the playoffs this year.

Well, they are unlikely to miss the playoffs, but their pick could certainly be in the #20-#22 range. As a Net fan, I'd be quite happy with the #11, #22, and #41 picks. Best-case scenario is probably #9, #20, and #39.

[If Dallas DOES miss the playoffs, then the Nets get unprotected picks in 2009 and 2011. Unless Dirk has a torn MCL, it's probably unlikely that the Mavs would miss the playoffs two years in a row.]

There are a LOT of options with those picks. Not just in terms of what players to select in those slots, but they are valuable enough to combine or to combine with players. The Nets need to sit down and decide what the team should look like.
