Breaking News: Gasol Traded To Lakers
    February 1, 2008 - 2:41 pm
    Memphis Commerical Appeal -
The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.

The decision was made that the Grizzlies could no longer move forward with Gasol on and off the basketball court.

The deal allows the Grizzlies to gain salary cap relief, as Brown is in the final year of a deal that pays $9,075,000.

I don't know how Thorn ends up with Swift when Lakers end up with Gasol.

Javaris is a point gaurd on a team loaded with young point gaurds. Why didn't we offer Boone or something because that is a sad deal.

Only positve is our GM isn't the dumbest!

It's a conspiracy....Jerry West sending his boys a farewell gift. Heisley wants to get all the long term salaries off his books, thus making it easier to sell.

pretty easy they sent expirings and draft picks, plus young trade pieces. NJ can't do that since they are rebuilding after Kidd is traded, I'm wondering if LAL will try to trade Odom now

Do you think the Lakers will be willing to trade Bynum for Kidd now that they have Gasol?

    Lets all pray.

    Not a chance.

Geez, have you seen that lineup, Fisher/Farmar at the arc.....Kidd would kill that team's halfcourt offense.

Bynum will be needed for his defense. Odom as the playmaker at the 3. It's like drafting Worthy all over again for them. Highway Robbery....conspiracy.

I think Mark Cuban might bite now, he has to make a move.

The Mavericks are a step behind the top 3 teams out West: Suns, Spurs, Lakers.

You're probably right. If anything, this trade helps us out as far as leverage.

Gasol would go to Memphis then. Marc was drafted by the Lakers.

Mavs have a ABC national game just prior to the SuperBowl.....think Cuban pulls the trigger sometime during the game......he loves the spotlight.

The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol's brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010,

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

Marc Gasol is going to Memphis

OTL on ESPN reported that. And you guys are right, this was highway robbery at it's finest. I can no longer make fun of Mitch now, cause this was brilliant.

As for you guys getting Bynum, not a chance in hell. Can you imagine a frontcourt of Bynum and Gasol? Unstoppable, that's all I have to say.

Lakers are freaking loaded! They are still horrible on D, but wow they will be able to put up some points with a starting 5 of Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Kobe and Fish, with Farmar, Ariza, Walton, etc. off the bench. Wow. Memphis really settled for a crappy package there.

I mean wow it's now safe to say ownership got Shaq traded not Mitch.

Grizzlies are on sale. West will retire soon.....this is his farewell gift to the Lakers. Don't know why they'd even bother doing Collins-Swift, other than getting a good citizen onto the team to help represent the players as educated to possible buyers.
