I will give you 3 hypothetical batters and 3 hypothetical pitchers, tell me the salary per year you'd pay each player or just rank them in the order you'd pay them for if you aren't giving an exact number, rank the 3 pitchers and 3 hitters separately Batters: Player A: Will get 10 PAs/year, but you can use him in any 10 situations you want and he will hit a HR. max of 10hr and 40rbis. Obviously not getting a lot but that can mean 10 wins if you use him correctly Player B: will have an OBP of 000 he will get out every time he's up, but he's going to have a 20 pitch AB each time and help to wear out the pitcher. Available as much as you want Player C: Will walk every 2 at bats, will get out every 2 abs. So OUT, BB, OUT, BB, OUT, BB ETC...Incredible OBP but not getting much run production out of him. Available as much as you want Pitchers: Pitcher A: Starter guaranteed to give you exactly 4ip 0r every outing. Not giving you length but you are guaranteed 4 shutout innings at the start of a game, not bad Pitcher B: Starter giving you 7 ip 4 er exactly every outing. High ERA, but giving you a lot of length and will keep you in it, usually 4 runs will. Pitcher C: Reliever, can come in every game and will get 1 out, then he must be received, essentially a free out each game
With all due Respect- Hypothetical Questions, can only properly be answered with Hypothetical Answers.... thus, to answer this Q, I'd Release the whole lot of these players.... Wouldn't even consider demoting them, or DFA, at least not in our own Farm System....let some other Hypothetical Team claim them....! I wouldn't consider paying them a dime, rather let them pay to play.... As far as ranking them, they all deserve the same score...ZERO....!!! Then again, we always need bat boys like these hypo-players...!!! Gassho- !
BTW-most rookie A level clubs wouldn't pick 'em up either...!!! Most Minor Level Clubs, have better players, and none are hypothetical....all real, as far as I've seen, no cyborgs, no robots, no hypo's....!
not a trick q just a hypothetical i thought of. No big picture message to it, just though it'd be interesting, i like things like this
BATTER A would be akin to a 10 win player, he would be amazing. kind of a waste of a roster spot but if you could bring him up for the playoffs you would have a very likely chance to win the WS every year. lifetime 4.000 slugging percentage. BATTER B is odd (would he even get pitched to? i would think pitchers would start plunking him with the first pitch and cut their losses ), i mean in this day and age, with guaranteeing a pitcher having to use 40 pitches on just him 2 times through the lineup. with the other 8 players you are looking at 100 pitches through 18 batters roughly, so he would help get you into the opposing teams bullpen by the 4th/5th/6th inning EVERY game...also very valuable. just an odd premise. BATTER C, depending on his speed, would be the greatest leadoff hitter of all time now to the pitchers PITCHER A is intriguing, depending on a few factors. if he is only pitching 4 innings, would he be available on 3 days rest? if he was a standard 5 man rotation pitcher you would be looking at a guy with 30+ starts, 120+ innings, and a 0.00 ERA...INCREDIBLY VALUABLE/ FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER. if he could go more often than every 5 days than that it only further exaggerates his immense worth. PITCHER B translates to a 5.14 ERA, these guys can be had for the vet minimum. PITCHER C would be an INCREDIBLY valuable player. think of all the loogys or right handed specialists in the league making good money, this guy would be the best specialist reliever in the history of baseball. if used correctly he would give you a great chance at the WS every year. 50+ innings a year with a 0.00 WHIP and 0.00 ERA... first ballot hall of famer.
...OK, in that case, 1. I'd probably have to take batter A, because if he were understanded to be able to hit a GS in each of his 10 ABs, he could be used to turn 10 losses in to 10 wins, which in reality, is a 20 game swing. I'm sure there's never been a player with WAR of +20.0 but I'd sure like to have one. 2. I'd also probably choose pitcher A, because a guaranteed 4 scoreless innings to begin the game means that my team gets 27 outs on offense but my opponent would only get 15 outs...I'd kinda like my chances in those games.
batter a can be used in the playoffs, but of course is a roster spot, batter b is just guaranteed 20 pitches and an out every time, he will dodge the plunks i guess lol idk but you get idea, batter c has average speed pitcher a sticks to the normal rotation, can't be used on 3 days rest, so figure around 33 starts a season
