I posted this question on the Bulls board, but I figured I'd post here too. Has Derrick Rose's current paycheck situation been discussed?

When injured, a player is paid by his team, but Rose is no longer "injured" according to doctors. So he's sitting out voluntarily. Any other player would not be paid by his team for choosing to sit out with no injury. Do you think the Bulls are still paying him; are they too scared of alienating their star to tell him, "We're sorry that you're not 'ready' to play, but we're not going to pay you to rest"?

Maybe they mailed it in for the year and decided to go the safe route with Rose letting him prepare for next season. I honestly don't know, but it's a reasonable thought.

Oden kept being paid. After doctors clear the player to play based on x-rays, he may report too much pain.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but the contract is guaranteed no matter what Rose's status is, right? His checks are automatic no matter what, until he retires or the contract expires.

I think Derrick Rose plays 110%, all out or nothing. He may not be "injured" anymore, but that's not to say his body is ready for him to come back. Rose is the Bulls, and they are smart to have him sit out the rest of the season.

There's a difference being "cleared to play" by doctors and being cleared to play by the team. Alot depends on the team asking Rose "are you ready" to play? If he says no, then fuck it. He's their franchise player and they're not going anywhere anyway this year.

I wish Rose was playing tonight. What an amazing loaded game it would be.

Wouldn't he have to be suspended in order to not be paid? That would make it pretty clear cut.

Utah went though a similar issue with Boozer. He was cleared to go a few years back, but Boozer said no he was not 100 %. Something did not feel right.
Nothing the team can do if they ever want the player to re-sign. Which they didn't end up wanting.

If the player can hurt himself again by playing too soon, don't do it. But if it is an ego issue where he won't play until he can play like a star.......then you have a Diva as your leader. The players who play hurt won't respect him. The others like Boozer will understand that it is just a business decision. They understand.

Of course he's getting paid. NBA players get paid whether they are injured, sick, depressed, in rehab, getting over rehab, breaking the law, missing alimony payments, skipping games, sleeping in, on vacation, getting high, goofing off, or dead.
